MTI qualifies two for national rodeo
Two Mitchell Technical Institute contestants qualified over the weekend for the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
Kyle Hapney and Evan Thyberg both qualified for the event, finishing in the top three in the region standings.
Over the weekend in Dickinson, N.D., Tanya Talsma finished second in breakaway roping, while Miles Kreeger took second in saddle bronc riding. Tyberg was seventh in tie-down roping and 10th in steer wrestling, Blake Boysen finished fourth in steer wrestling and Thyberg and Jason Hapney were sixth in team roping. Tanner Cross and Newt Brule finished splitting second and third and Tucker Whitney and Boysen were sixth in team roping.

Overall rodeo regional standings
Tanya Talsma 20th in breakaway roping; Evan Thyberg 13th, Blake Boysen 19th, and Jason Hapney 26th in tie-down roping; Kyle Hapney 1st, Jim O'Leary (WTT II) 5th, Myles Kreeger 7th, Jason Hapney 11th, and Tucker Whitney 12th in saddle bronc riding; team roping heading has Klay O'Daniel (WMT I) 6th, Boysen 12th, Jason Hapney 16th, Tanner Radway (ECM II) 20th, Bree Albers (MA I) 21st, and Kenny Carmichael (ADBC I) 32nd. In the team roping heeling we have Tanner Cross 7th, Thyberg 12th, Tucker Whitney 13th, Jim O'Leary 25th, and Chance Parr (TECO II) 32nd. Goat tying has Shayla Allen (MA II) 21st. Steer wrestling finished with Thyberg 3rd, Boysen 4th, Chase Albers (FWPR II) 8th, and Jason Hapney 1oth. Bull riding had Kyle Hapney finishing in 4th. Overall the men's team was 4th and the women's team 8th.
