The blizzard conditions in the Mitchell area has resulted in the postponement and cancellation of a number of events this weekend:
The Lakota games on ice scheduled for the Prehistoric Indian Village at Lake Mitchell has been postponed to Jan. 25.
- The used book sale to benefit the Mitchell Area Historical Society at the Carnegie Resource Center has been postponed to Jan. 25.
- The inaugural Mitchell Health and Wellness Fair scheduled for Saturday morning has been postponed to Feb. 8.
- The FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Alexandria, Madison, Mitchell and Plankinton closed permanently at 1 p.m. Friday. The Plankinton location will not reopen Saturday as previously scheduled. Even though the centers are closing, individuals and businesses with uninsured losses or damage from the September flooding and tornadoes have until Friday Jan. 31 to register with FEMA for disaster assistance or reimbursements. Individuals can register with FEMA online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA’s helpline at 800-621-3362
On the sports scene, nearly the entire weekend slate has been postponed or cancelled. A complete listing can be found here.
Also of note, the city of Mitchell will conduct garbage and recycling pickup on Monday morning from 7 a.m. to noon, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In accordance, the Mitchell Regional Landfill will close at noon. The Mitchell Public Library will be closed Monday as well.
