Holiday lights and festivities were on full display Tuesday night on Mitchell’s Main Street.
Floats covered in Christmas lights marched through downtown Mitchell in front of community members to help celebrate the annual Parade of Lights. This year’s theme was “Songs of the Season,” which sparked ideas for music-themed floats.
There were a total of 37 floats that took part in the event, with the top entries awarded by Mitchell Main Street and Beyond. A team of three judges had to choose the winners for the two categories, “Best Use of Theme” and “Best Use of Lights.”
In the Lights categories, BankWest took first, while U.S. Bank came in second for the Small Bus category. In the Long Bus category, the Lee Family took first place, followed by runner-up Twin City Fan. For the Community Organization category, 301 Rodz was first, while Mitchell Area Community Theater finished in second.
In the Theme categories, it was the Morgan Theeler law firm taking first place for the Small Bus float, while U.S. Bank took second. Cortrust Bank took first and Twin City Fan claimed second for the Long Bus category. The community organization winners were Heart and Soul Cancer Walk, first, and Faith Missionary Church, second.
To close out the Parade of Lights, Santa Claus made an appearance on a fire truck float, standing on the ladder.
