A community-wide disaster exercise will be conducted Tuesday in Mitchell, and the public may notice emergency response vehicles at health care facilities as part of the exercise.
The drill will begin at approximately 2 p.m. and will involve Avera Queen of Peace; Avera Brady Health and Rehab; Avera@Home; Avera Medical Group clinics; Avera Dialysis; Firesteel Healthcare Community; Dakota Counseling; Davita Dialysis; the Abbott House; multiple other medical clinics in Mitchell; Davison County Office of Emergency Management; Davison County Search & Rescue; Mitchell Fire and EMS; Mitchell Police; and the Davison County Sheriff's Office.
To enhance the effectiveness of the drill, emergency responders and health care personnel will collaborate with actors to create the scenario. Although measures will be taken to make clear that a drill is being conducted, casual observers may mistake this for an actual emergency. We encourage members of the public to share this announcement with family and friends to make them aware of the planned exercise.
By working together on disaster drills, local emergency responders and health care personnel are better prepared to deal with an actual emergency. The cooperation of the public during this exercise is appreciated.
