SCAM ALERT: In recent weeks, residents of Jerauld County have received phone calls from scammers posing as employees of the IRS, Publisher's Clearing House, law enforcement agencies and even the Jerauld County Sheriff's Office. Many of the phone scams congratulated the individual on winning a prize only to ask for a small payment. The IRS scam told the individual they must pay money to avoid being prosecuted and arrested. The sheriff's office urges the public to never give out personal information over the phone.

COMMEMORATION BASE INSTALLED: A new first base honoring Geoffrey Pfeiffer, who lost a multi-year battle with brain cancer last October, was installed in the Freeman Baseball Park before a game against Tabor on July 1. Pfeiffer had a great love of baseball and played both a catcher and first baseman for the Freeman Blacksox. He also served on the Freeman Baseball Association board of directors. The base features decals with Pfeiffer's name and state number, 10. Along with the installation of the new base, the Freeman Blacksox retired Pfeiffer's state number.
