It was a battle of the soups.

Edgewood Assisted Living and Big Friend Little Friend of Mitchell joined forces for the first-ever Souper Bowl on Saturday, pitting service clubs of the area against one another.

Winning the top prize - and a trophy for boasting - was the Kiwanis Club of Mitchell with its chicken tortilla soup. The group also won the fan favorite category over the Exchange Club of Mitchell and the Mitchell Lions Club.

All proceeds for the event went to Big Friend Little Friend, according to Al Bahe, sales and marketing director for Edgewood. By the end of the day, the crew raised $204 for the organization.

"Everybody that was here had a great time," Bahe said.

Bahe hopes to make the Souper Bowl an annual event on Super Bowl weekend, with service clubs competing again next year.
