YOUTH'S ART TO APPEAR ON I-90 BILLBOARD: Teresa Schroeder, a fourth-grader at Plankinton School, was chosen as the 2018 state winner of the Work Zone Awareness Billboard contest. Fourth-grade classes across South Dakota were invited to participate in this annual contest. The Associated General Contractors of South Dakota is in its sixth year of sponsoring this billboard poster contest to raise awareness of the importance of being safe while driving through construction zones. Schroeder's artwork will be featured on a billboard at mile marker 350 along Interstate 90. The colorful poster will be installed by June 4th and will be on display for one month.

FIRST-EVER SOUTH DAKOTA CHISLIC FESTIVAL: With city council support, Freeman will host the first-ever South Dakota Chislic Festival on July 28th. The event developed by Joshua Hofer, Freeman's development and marketing coordinator, and a handful of community representatives, will revolve around a judged chislic competition with cash prizes and trophies given out to exceptional chislic recipes. Members of the city council hope this event will bring recognition and more people to town. More information about the festival will be released at a later time.

BURGLARY INVESTIGATION: There has been a recent string of burglaries committed in Miner and other surrounding counties. One person has been arrested and other persons are being sought. Some of the stolen property connected with the Miner County thefts has been recovered. This investigation is still ongoing.
