Tuesday was World Autism Awareness Day, and the Corn Palace was lit up in blue to raise public awareness and understanding of autism spectrum disorders.

Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson signed a proclamation recognizing April as World Autism Month and April 2, 2019, as World Autism Awareness Day. Light blue is the color used to represent autism.

Autism spectrum disorders affect at least 1 in 59 children and an unknown number of adults in the United States. The disorders are a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors and speech and nonverbal communication.
