Chamberlain girls cross country earns team title at MCM Invite

SALEM -- The Chamberlain girls cross country team put together a strong showing on Tuesday at the McCook Central/Montrose Invitational, as it raced to a first-place finish at McCook Country Club.

The Cubs had three top-10 finishers, while Burke finished in fifth and Winner Area took sixth on the girls side.

Burke’s Hallie Person paced the competition with a top time of 19 minutes, 52.06 seconds. Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans (20:27.81) finished in second, while teammate Allison Hough (21:13.84) placed fourth. Ethan/Parkston’s Lindsey Roth earned third in 21:07.63.

In sixth place, Canistota’s Kara Roshone crossed the finish line in 21:47.98. Jada Koerner, of Freeman Academy/Marion, took ninth in 22:22.74 and Menno’s Morgan Edelman rounded out the top-10 runners in 22:24.91.

Baltic edged Winner Area for the boys team title by five points, while Garretson, Chamberlain and Freeman Academy/Marion rounded out the top-five teams. Ethan/Parkston earned eighth and Mitchell Christian placed in 10th, too.

Chamberlain had the top finisher in Dom Santiago (17:38.55), who edged Freeman Academy/Marion’s Titus Roesler (17:40.40). Canistota’s Josiah Schroeder (17:44.10) came in third place, while Kade Watson, of Winner Area, finished in 18:22.59 to place fifth. Chamberlain’s second finisher Declan Tveit notched seventh in 18:39.85.
