To the Editor:
My name is Autumn Lentz. I am a freshman at Mitchell High School. In observance of national 4-H week I wanted to bring attention to all the great benefits of belonging to this great organization.
I began my 4-H journey six years ago by joining the Stand Up and Smile 4-H Club in Davison County. I have participated in many activities such as special foods, gardening, food and nutrition, sewing, photography and public speaking.
The great thing about 4-H is there are so many categories of activities anyone can find something they are interested in. Not only is 4-H a great way to explore different life skills, it’s also a fantastic way to build your character and leadership skills. It’s where I learned how to have confidence in public speaking and it gave me leadership skills while servicing in several officer positions in our club.
I would encourage anyone who is interested in exploring what 4-H has to offer to check out the national 4-H website at www.4-h.org or visit the SD Cooperative Extension 4-H website at https://extension.sdstate..edu/south-dakota-4-h

If you are in Davison or Hanson County, contact Caroline Hansen, SDSU Extension 4-H Youth Program adviser, and she will help you get assigned to a local club.
