Hibbett Sporting Goods, a national sporting goods store, will be one of five businesses to move into a new retail center north of Menards in Mitchell.

Hibbett announced its lease for a new store Wednesday morning. Chad Van Buskirk, of the Sioux Falls-based Van Buskirk Companies and project developer, declined to release the other businesses that are planning to open at the 16,750-square-foot retail center. Van Buskirk said there are five businesses that will move in and three have already signed leases.

According to a news release from Hibbett, the store plans to employ a total of eight full- and part-time employees. Hibbett has one South Dakota location in Vermillion. There are about 900 Hibbett Sporting Goods stores, predominantly in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions.

The store offers branded athletic equipment, footwear and apparel. It does not sell outdoors equipment.

Construction of the retail center began in late August. The shell of the building is expected to be finished before the end of the year and businesses will move in by early 2014. The estimated cost of the project is $1,000,900, according to the building permit filed with the city of Mitchell.
