Casey’s General Stores plans to open a second location in downtown Mitchell.

According to Bill Walljasper, the company’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, Casey’s has acquired the Amstar property, located at 100 S. Main St.

Amstar is owned by AP Investments LLC, a South Dakota corporation that lists Paul Muth as its registered agent.

The Casey’s name could be on the property by the second or third week of December, once the company officially closes the deal, Walljasper said.

“It will be quick,” he said. “We like to get the name up as quickly as possible.”

Once Casey’s takes over the property, the store will be scheduled for a remodel to allow the company to begin serving its prepared food at the new location, Walljasper said. The remodel will likely take place this spring or summer.

“We’ll operate it as-is until we can get our prepared food in,” he said.

The new location would be Casey’s second in Mitchell. The company’s other store is located at 701 N. Main St.

“South Dakota has been a good state for us,” Walljasper said. “This is just one of those sites that came across the radar screen.”

Casey’s also has locations in Parkston, Freeman, Wagner, Platte and Chamberlain, among its 40 locations in South Dakota, according to the company’s 2013 annual report.
