There will be a Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Ethan gymnasium. The speaker for the event is Mike Oster. The public is invited to attend this function. After the program, the Ethan area veterans will be hosting a potluck at the Legion Hall in Ethan. In conjunction with Veterans Day, the Ethan Student Council members and their adviser, McKenzie Frerichs, have assembled a "Hero Wall." All Ethan students were encouraged to bring a photo and description of a family member or friend that is a veteran.
Congratulations to Jacob Spier and Kendra Klumb. They were crowned 2015 Homecoming King and Queen on Sept. 28. Jacob is the son of Terry and Brenda Spier and Kendra is the daughter of Shannon and Michelle Klumb. The results of the local oral interp contest held Sept.
Ethan High School sophomore Hannah Hohn recently competed in the 2015 South Dakota State 8-Ball tournament held in Rapid City. Hannah was the winner of the women's B division. Hannah is the daughter of Dana and Heather Hohn. Congratulations, also, to Kassidy Bricker, who placed third at the State Visual Arts Competition, held March 19-21 in Sioux Falls. Kassidy placed in the watercolor category. She is the daughter of Joyce Bricker and is a senior at Ethan High School. The 2014-15 yearbooks are still available for pre-ordering.
The Ethan Volunteer Fire Department is having a raffle. Tickets are $2 each, or three for $5. There are eight prizes which are all worth over $100 each. If you have not purchased tickets yet, you can get them from Wyatt McBrayer or Dan Pollreisz. The drawing will be on Saturday. You do not need to be present to win. Congratulations to Ally Feiner. She attended the State Oral Interp Contest in Huron on Dec. 6 and received a superior on her performance. The local hoop shoot contest was held in Ethan on Nov. 11 and Logan Koch made 20 out of 25 free throws to win the competition.
The Ethan FCCLA chapter is hosting a hat and mitten tree from Dec. 1-16 with the items to be given to the Salvation Army. They will be collecting hats, mittens, coats and scarves, which can be brought to the library and put on or under the tree. You can also drop off the items during either of the Christmas concerts. Help decorate the tree to help out others so they can have a warm and cozy Christmas, too. Thanks so much for your generosity. The Ethan Booster Club is selling Rustler apparel: T-shirts, hooded pullovers and ladies tumble jackets — until Dec. 4.
Students in grades five through eight attended the Elementary Vocal contest in Armour on April 18.
Congratulations to this year's Homecoming King Hanner Tilberg and Queen Darbi Gustafson. Hanner is the son of Tim and Sue Tilberg and Darbi is the daughter of Jeff and Janet Gustafson. They were crowned at Ethan's homecoming coronation on Sept. 23. Harvest Fest will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 4-5 at Hanselman's Pumpkin Patch. There will be pumpkin painting, goodies to eat and other fall fun. The cost is $4 for pumpkin painting. All ages are welcome. There are a limited number of 2013-2014 Ethan School yearbooks left to purchase.
The local oral interp contest was held on Wednesday in Ethan.
The CBH Oral Interp Contest was on Oct. 7 in Mitchell. Ethan placed second overall as a team.
This week is Red Ribbon Week. The FCCLA students will be featuring something different in support of students being drug free. Monday, wear red day. Tuesday, Drugs Turn You Inside Out, wear everything backwards or inside out; Wednesday, Team Up Against Drugs, wear your favorite sports team apparel; Thursday, Put a Cap on Drugs, wear a hat day; and Friday, Sock It to Drugs, wear crazy mismatched socks. Ethan is once again sponsoring a United Blood Services blood drive. The blood drive will be held at the Legion Hall in Ethan on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
