Three area standouts have been named to the first team of the Class B all-state girls basketball team, part of a strong contingent of regional talent during the 2017 season. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket's Myah Selland was selected as the Class B Player of the Year after leading the Blackhawks to a runner-up finish during her senior campaign. It's the third consecutive season she has been named to the first team and fourth overall selection the Class B all-state team, as selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.
After leading their teams to upset victories in the Class B boys basketball state tournament, Ethan’s Blake Bartscher and Platte-Geddes’ Coby Johnson were named to the Class B all-state first team, which is selected by the South Dakota High School Basketball Coaches Association and the South Dakota Sportswriters Association. Other first-team selections were James Valley Christian’s Nathan Wedel, Centerville’s Seamus O’Malley, Langford Area’s Bo Fries and Wolsey-Wessington’s Lorenzo Williams. Two other area boys basketball players earned all-state honors this season.
