SIOUX FALLS -- A 15-year-old boy who was a passenger in a car that hit a tree just off a main roadway in central Sioux Falls has died. Sioux Falls police said that at 4 a.m. they responded to a single vehicle car crash near Western Avenue and 22nd Street, where a northbound vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The boy who died was in the vehicle.
SIOUX FALLS -- A 64-year-old woman who died in a house fire in north Sioux Falls early Sunday morning has been identified as Karanne Kay Miller. A city police officer patrolling in the area of the fire at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday spotted the house on fire on North 10th Avenue. The first-arriving fire crew reported heavy smoke coming from the single-family home.
BELCOURT, N.D — The funeral for a Rolette County sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24. An obituary for Colt Eugene Allery, 29, states the funeral will be at 1 p.m. at Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt. The obituary, posted on the Elick Funeral Home website, says Allery was a "true hero among us, selflessly defending his community in the line of duty."
FARGO—Fargo Police Chief David Todd has posted a condolence note on his department's Facebook page to the Rolette County Sheriff's Department, which is mourning the loss of a deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday night, Jan. 18. "Our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to the Rolette County Sheriff's Department in their incredible loss of Deputy Colt Allery," Todd wrote.

CANNON BALL, N.D. -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick donated $50,000 to a Standing Rock Sioux Reservation health clinic in December, his website says. Kaepernick pledged $1 million from the sales of his jerseys to various causes and organizations at a news conference following a polarizing decision not to stand during the national anthem before games this season.
FARGO - A 32-year-old woman was stabbed in the leg by a man she had taken into her vehicle in the downtown area early Sunday, Jan. 8, a Fargo police spokesman said. About 1:05 a.m., the woman was driving on Broadway when she was flagged down by a man who appeared intoxicated and asked for a ride to a restaurant, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
SIOUX FALLS -- Sioux Falls police officers are conducting their third annual deer harvest in the city limits with the goals of reducing property damage and improving the health of the city’s deer population. For the past two years the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks has issued a permit allowing the police to harvest the deer. The permits were issued after annual deer counts, analysis of deer-vehicle collision data, and public input.
KYLE -- An FBI investigation is continuing this week into a shooting last week by a tribal officer who shot and killed another man during a confrontation on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
BROOKINGS – A 55-year-old man died Monday night in a one-vehicle crash south of Brookings. The person’s name is not being released pending notification of family members. A 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup was northbound on Interstate 29 when the vehicle left the ice-covered roadway, entered the median and rolled. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
