EAGLE BUTTE -- A 54-year-old Eagle Butte man has been indicted on charges he assaulted Ziebach County Sheriff Gary Cudmore and officers from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in an incident on May 8 in far northwest South Dakota. Pete Knight was indicted and entered a not guilty plea in mid-June.
RAPID CITY -- A 41-year-old Rapid City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for commercial sex trafficking. Kevin D. Jenkins is facing up to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine on the charge. In the indictment, officials allege Jenkins “obtained a child between the ages of 14 and 18 to engage in a commercial sex act between January and August of 2016.” The investigation is being conducted by the FBI.

The family of Philando Castile, a black motorist who was shot five times during a traffic stop in Minnesota last year by a police officer, reached a $3 million settlement with the city of St. Anthony, according to media reports. The Minnesota city said in a statement acquired by CNN that "the parties moved expeditiously to resolve potential civil claims resulting from this tragedy in order to allow the process of healing to move forward."

WEBSTER -- Two northeast South Dakota men will lose their hunting privileges for three years and pay restitution of $10,850 for shooting and killing more than 200 pelicans and double-crested cormorants in the spring of last year on small lake in Day County. The two were convicted in federal court of taking, killing and possessing migratory birds. Brant Nelson, 66 and Kirk Nelson, 63, were also sentenced to 36 months of probation.
CLOQUET, Minn. — Charges have been filed against the owners of three dogs that allegedly escaped a kennel and killed another dog that was being walked by a Cloquet woman last week. Stephen Woollett, 59, and Amber Woollett, 22, both of Cloquet, each are charged with misdemeanor counts of dangerous animals — attack by an animal and dogs running at large. Amber Woollett faces two counts of each, while Stephen Woollett faces one of each. The charges each carry maximum penalties of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- PGA Tour Champions and Sanford Health announced on Thursday, June 8, a new event is coming to Sioux Falls for the 2018 season. The Sanford Health International Presented by Cambria will be the first-ever PGA Tour Champions event in South Dakota. Minnehaha Country Club will host the Sept. 17-23 event featuring a $1.8 million purse. The PGA Tour Champions features golfers 50 or older.
