MHS girls beat Tea Area 2-1 By The Daily Republic TEA — The Mitchell Kernels girls’ varsity team won its third game of the season Thursday as it defeated Tea Area 2-1. Bailey Hohn scored the first goal for the Kernels in the first half. Emily Paulson added a second goal in the second half to give the Kernels a 2-0 lead. Tea scored with eight minutes left in the game to cut the lead in half. “I am very proud of the girls, and I am excited that the scoreboard is finally reflecting how well they have been playing,” Mitchell girls’ soccer coach Kayla Braffet said.
ETHAN — Darbi Gustafson recorded 15 kills and 10 digs to lift Ethan over Mitchell Christian 3-0 in a high school volleyball match Monday. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-9. Rachel Hawkins recorded six kills and 14 digs, Morgan Tuttle had six kills and Kacey Bartscher tallied eight digs in the win. Danika Pollreisz added four aces and Holley Lindeman had 28 assists for Ethan. Emily Reynen recorded nine kills, six digs and four blocks for the Golden Eagles.

FORT PIERRE — The Winner Warriors did not drop a set in its win at the Big Dakota Conference tournament Saturday in Fort Pierre. Winner (12-1) cruised through its first match against Chamberlain (4-5), defeating the Cubs 25-11, 25-7.
DWU falls to Neb. Wesleyan in four The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team dropped a close four-set match to Nebraska Wesleyan for the Tiger’s seventh straight loss Saturday in Mitchell. The set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-23. The Tigers (4-12, 0-3 GPAC) were led by Sarah Kruse and Mallory Jark, each finishing with 14 kills. Brianna Jung added 40 assists for DWU, while Taylor Spence had a match-high 19 digs for the Tigers. DWU plays Morningside College at 7:30 p.m.
