Mitchell man arrested for suffocating woman to death

DWU women's golf team wins Midland Spring Invite

FREMONT, Neb. -- Four of Five Dakota Wesleyan University golfers finished in the top 10 to help the Tiger women’s golf team to win the Midland Spring Invite Tuesday with a score of 335.

Morningside finished second with a score of 375.

Lauren Fitts led the way for Wesleyan by fighting through windy conditions to finish first with a score of 79. DWU coach Adam Anderson said she played better than her score suggested she did.

“She had four double bogeys in one round and still ended up with the score she had,” Anderson said. “That stuff happens early on in the season, when you are trying to work the kinks out. As the season goes on, we will see those mistakes less and less, but it was still a great performance.”

Wesleyan’s Chelsea Burback and April Barnett each shot an 84 to tie for third and Jenna Winckler took ninth with an 88. Tiera Feller was the lone Tiger out of the top 10, finishing 15th with a 93.

“The girls did pretty good considering how early it is in the season and the limited amount of time we have had to practice outside this year,” Anderson said. “It wasn’t an easy day to play but I was very proud of the girls.”

The Tigers are back in action Saturday and Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
