DWU volleyball goes 1-1 Saturday

MAYVILLE, N.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team finished 1-1 this weekend in Mayville, N.D.

The Tigers played a double header Saturday, dropping its opening game to Mayville State 3-0 and winning its second game against Valley City State 3-2.

Set scores from game one were 25-10, 25-16, 25-16. Set scores from game two were 18-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-14, 15-13.

Hannah Hammer had eight kills and Sarah Kruse had seven kills and two digs to lead the Tigers in game one.

Wesleyan was led by Taylor Spence and Marissa Soderberg in game two.

Spence recorded 13 kills and 12 digs, while Soderberg had 10 kills.

DWU (6-17) plays Dordt College Tuesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

DWU men fall to No. 6 Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Hastings 2-1.

Trent Robbins scored the only game of the day for the Tigers in the first half.

Dru Kobs and Thomas Boss scored goals for Hastings.

DWU (6-3-2, 1-1-1 GPAC) hosts Morningside at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

DWU women lose to Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Hastings 7-0 Saturday.

Hastings (7-4, 3-1 GPAC) outshot the Tigers 53-2.

Erica Carpenter had 15 saves for Wesleyan in goal.

DWU (4-6-1, 1-2 GPAC) hosts Morningside Wednesday at the Pepsi Soccer Complex.

SDSU announces plans for new football stadium

BROOKINGS – Officials at South Dakota State University announced lead gifts totaling $12.5 million to be put towards the construction of a new football stadium for the Jackrabbits.

The lead gifts are from Sioux Falls banker Dana Dykhouse and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford.

The announcement was made Saturday as a part of the 100th Hobo Day game at SDSU.

The proposed stadium would have a capacity of 18,000 to 20,000 and replace the now 51-year old Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.

MHS pair named to all-tourney team

Mitchell’s Jenna Skinner and Hallie Misiaszek were named to the all-tournament team Sunday for their performance in the high school softball state tournament.

Skinner was .500 in the four games Mitchell played Friday, driving in seven runs and hitting two homeruns.

Misiaszek finshed her tournament going 7-for-12 with seven RBIs and one homerun. She was also the winning pitcher in the Kernels’loan victory over Sioux Falls O’Gorman.
