Augustana football coach says he's been fired

SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- Augustana College head football coach Mike Aldrich says he's been fired.

Aldrich told the media on Tuesday that he was fired in a morning meeting with athletic director Bill Gross, and that offensive coordinator Steve Olinger also was let go.

Neither Gross nor Aldrich immediately returned messages left by The Associated Press.

The Vikings finished 5-6 this season. They lost their final three home games of the year, one to city rival University of Sioux Falls.

Aldrich was Augustana's head coach for three seasons, compiling a record of 22-13. He led the Vikings to their best season in school history in his debut season. They went 11-2 and made the NCAA Division II playoffs, losing to eventual national champion Minnesota Duluth.
