Prep volleyball roundup: Blackhawks hand Golden Eagles first loss

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket topped Mitchell Christian 3-1 in prep volleyball action on Thursday at the Mitchell Christian High School. Set scores were 14-25, 25-15, 25-11 and 25-20.

Tesa Jensen led the Blackhawks with 18 kiills, while Abby Doering had 11 kills, eight digs, two aces and two blocks. Erica Howard added six kills and four digs. Tristan Ziebart recorded 32 assists and 15 digs. Madi Moody chipped in with 20 digs and six assists.

Grace Carrels, Anna Cooper and Maggie Reynen all had four kills for the Golden Eagles. Reynen added eight digs and Cooper had three blocks. Erica Thompson contributed two aces, 11 digs and 12 assists. Katelyn Karhoff had 12 digs, Charlotte Haag had three blocks and Adeline Grant had three aces.

SCW won the JV match 25-16 and 25-14.

MCS (2-1) and SCW (4-3) each play in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament on Saturday in Plankinton.

Ethan 3, Menno 0

MENNO—Ethan cruised for a three-set prep volleyball victory Thursday night, downing Menno 25-20, 25-16 and 25-9.

Mollie Miiller had 11 kills and three blocks for the visiting Rustlers, who also had 10 kills, three blocks and five digs from Karly Gustafson. Jessica Bartscher had 32 set assists and Jada Plastow had five aces, seven kills and eight digs in the win.

For Menno, Ashton Vaith had five kills and 18 digs, while Paige Heckenlaible had five kills, three blocks and seven digs. Eisley Sayler tacked on 10 digs and four kills for the Wolves, who also won the JV match (25-13 and 25-21).

Ethan (5-2) plays in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament on Saturday in Plankinton. Menno (2-2) plays at Howard on Monday.

Wagner 3, Gregory 0

WAGNER—Wagner swept Gregory in straight sets in a prep volleyball match on Thursday in Wagner. Set scores were 25-9, 25-14 and 26-24.

Carolyn Blaha led the Red Raiders with 10 kills and Faith Tyler added nine digs. Sierra Juffer dished out 26 assists and Schylar Juffer recorded three aces.

For Gregory, Megan Warnke notched five kills and six digs. Jessy VanDerWerff put down five kills for the Gorillas.

Wagner (6-2) plays at Avon on Tuesday. Gregory (5-4) plays Wessington Springs on Saturday in Gregory.

Freeman 3, Gayville-Volin 0

FREEMAN—Emily Miller's nine kills, two blocks and three aces helped Freeman beat Gayville-Volin 25-9, 25-15 and 25-18 in a prep volleyball game on Thursday in Freeman.

Ashley Glanzer added five kills, three blocks, one assist, two digs and two aces, while Jamie Glanzer had 13 digs, three kills and two aces.

Lanny Clark led Gayville-Volin with 17 kills and two aces, while Molly Larson had 12 digs.

Freeman (4-1) plays in a tournament in Corsica on Saturday. Gayville-Volin (2-5) plays Viborg-Hurley on Tuesday in Gayville.

KWL 3, TDA 0

ARMOUR—Grace Konechne and Carly Beckmann each had 10 kills as Kimball/White Lake downed Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3-0 in a prep volleyball action on Thursday in Armour. Set scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-11.

Heather Munsen added 21 assists, while Sara Kunnari had six kills, one block and five aces in the win for the WiLdKats.

For TDA, Jackie Nuss had 10 digs, while Alyssa Whitney had 11 assists, four digs and three aces.

KWL (3-1) plays in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament on Saturday in Plankinton. TDA (0-4) plays at Colome on Saturday.

FA/M 3, Scotland 1

SCOTLAND—Freeman Academy/Marion downed Scotland 3-1 in a prep volleyball match on Thursday in Scotland. Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-21.

Michele Schoenwald led FAM with 10 kills and 10 digs. Annie Carlson recorded nine kills, seven digs and four aces. Emily Heeg chipped in with 10 digs, six kills and two aces. Rachel Miller recorded 15 digs and three aces. Amy Ptak had 17 assists, three digs and two aces.

For Scotland, Taylor Gall had 16 digs and 14 kills. Taylor Bietz had 26 assists and 19 digs. Kennedy Bietz added 10 digs and six kills. Bella Vitek had seven kills, six digs, four aces and three blocks.

FA/M (2-3) plays Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Saturday in Freeman. Scotland (1-4) plays at Freeman on Monday.

Platte-Geddes 3, Bon Homme 0

TYNDALL—Platte-Geddes swept Bon Homme in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Tyndall. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-23.

Tori Weins led the Black Panthers with 16 kills and three blocks. Hailey Wagner added eight digs, five kills and two blocks. Carly Sprik contributed 12 digs, five kills and two blocks. Courtney Neuman dished out 27 assists.

For Bon Homme, Ciera Himes had six kills and Rachel Sestak added five kills. Brecken Bullard had 10 digs, four kills and two aces. Emily Cap and Jenae Alberts recorded 15 and 13 digs respectively. Johanna Jelsma had 16 digs and Kenzie Carson had three blocks.

Platte-Geddes (2-4) plays Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Monday in Platte. Bon Homme (0-6) plays at Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Tuesday in Tripp.

Avon 3, A-H 0

ALCESTER—Avon picked up a three-set road sweep Thursday in prep volleyball, knocking off Alcester-Hudson by a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 score.

Kacie Mudder had six kills and 10 digs, while Livi Jurrens had five kills and three blocks for the Pirates. Avon's Cheylee Nagel had nine digs and Lauren Sees had four kills and four blocks in the win.

No stats were reported for the Cubs, while Avon won the JV game in a sweep.

Avon (4-1) hosts Wagner on Tuesday in Avon. Alcester-Hudson (3-1) plays Dakota Valley on Tuesday in Alcester.

Hanson 3, MVP 0

MOUNT VERNON—No. 4 Hanson remained perfect on the season with a sweep against Mount Vernon/Plankinton in a prep volleyball action on Thursday in Mount Vernon. Set scores were 31-29, 25-19 and 25-14.

Jada Campbell powered Hanson with 13 kills and three blocks. Heather Kayser added 29 assists, 13 digs and seven kills. Tessa Zens notched 10 digs and two aces. Brookelyn Slaba and Morgan Trabing both had 11 digs in the win. Slaba added seven kills.

For MVP, Destiney Haak recorded 19 kills and Reagan Klooz dished out 19 assists. Hailey Walz and Sydney Tlam both had two aces, while Walz added 10 digs.

The Titans won the JV match 2-0.

Hanson (7-0) plays Canistota on Tuesday in Alexandria. MVP (2-2) hosts in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament on Saturday in Plankinton. The Titans will play Corsica-Stickney in the first round.


NEW HOLLAND—Andes Central/Dakota Christian downed Sunshine Bible Academy in straight sets in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in New Holland. Set scores were 25-11, 25-6 and 25-22.

Taylor Gray led ACDC with 24 assists and 13 digs. Beulah Black Cloud chipped in with eight kills and 10 digs. Megan Mudder recorded two aces, six kills and 10 digs. Brianna Deurmier contributed nine digs and five aces.

For SBA, Lindsey Wilken had five kills and one block.

ACDC (6-1) plays Platte-Geddes on Monday in Platte. SBA (0-5) plays Aberdeen Christian today in Miller.

Howard, MCM go 1-1 at Big East tourney

FLANDREAU—McCook Central/Montrose took down Howard in four sets for a first-round win

at Big East Conference Tournament in Flandreau but both teams emerged with wins Thursday.

MCM won in four sets in the opener 25-14, 27-29, 25-16 and 25-16. Kenna Kranz had 15 kills and 15 digs and Morgan Koepsell had nine kills and five blocks, while Emily Bies had 24 set assists. Harley Miles added 31 digs. For Howard, Citori Rentz had 13 kills and Kiara Glanzer had 15 assists, with Cailey Hinker adding 13 digs.

Parker upended MCM in the tournament semifinals, winning 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-16). Hannah Viet had 14 kills and Grace Leberman added 11 kills and 15 digs in the match for Parker (4-1). MCM had 10 kills from Aleah Ries and nine from Koepsell, while Miles had a match-high 20 digs.

Howard picked up a four-set win in the consolation semifinals over Flandreau (25-18, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-21). Rentz led Howard with 15 kills and Glanzer had 11 assists. Hinker recorded 12 digs and Mead had five blocks.

Both teams will play Saturday in Chester. MCM (5-5) plays Sioux Valley in the third-place match, while Howard (3-4) plays Baltic in the fifth-place match..

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

WAKONDA—Bridgewater-Emery defeated Irene-Wakonda 3-1 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Wakonda. Set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 16-25 and 27-25.
