Corsica-Stickney pulls away from Mitchell Christian

Mitchell Christian hung with No. 4 Corsica-Stickney for a half, but the second half doomed the Golden Eagles on Tuesday at MCS Gym.

The Jaguars pulled away from Mitchell Christian for a 65-42 boys basketball victory.

Mitchell Christian led 11-10 after the first quarter and trailed 24-19 at halftime.

“We did a really great job of coming out prepared and really executing our game plan,” Mitchell Christian coach Jesse Tolsma said.

The Jaguars then surged ahead in the second half and the Golden Eagles couldn’t keep pace.

“We missed a few opportunities to kind of cut into it and then they did a good job of finishing down the stretch and putting it away,” Tolsma said.

The Jaguars went ahead 41-30 after the third quarter and put the game away in the fourth quarter.

“Hats off to Corsica-Stickney, they are a top rated team for a reason,” Tolsma said, “but I was really proud of the fight our young men put up tonight.”

Alec Nelson paced the Golden Eagles with 11 points and Ty Vander Pol scored 10 points.

Hunter Johnson led the Jaguars with 15 points. Clayton Menning tossed in 14 points and Reed Baan Hofman netted 10 points.

Mitchell Christian (2-6) will play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday in New Holland. Corsica-Stickney (7-1) will play Kimball/White Lake on Friday in White Lake.
