CKL hands Honkers first loss of season

CHAMBERLAIN — The Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Chamberlain/Kimball/Lyman 4-1.

The Honkers struggled to hit Hunter Hallock’s pitches as he struck out 10 batters. Hallock got the win on the mound, throwing six innings and giving up one run on two hits. Chris Schwartz threw in relief, striking out two in a scoreless inning.

The losing pitcher was Cody Qualm, who gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings. Coby Johnson got the final out on the mound for the Honkers (3-1).

CKL had four hits in the first inning, which led to a quick 2-0 lead. CKL picked up its last two runs (unearned) in the sixth inning on two errors by the Honkers.

The Honkers scored their lone run in the third. Nick Blom had an RBI and a triple in the loss, while Seth Kirsch had a single.

Hunter Knippling led CKL with a double.

Chamberlain won the JV game 7-5.
