Kernel fan bus seats open for state

The Mitchell Athletic Booster Club will be organizing a fan bus to the Class AA state girls’ basketball tournament Thursday in Brookings.

The cost is $25 per person and the fee includes the bus ride and entrance to the game. There must be 40 people signed up by Wednesday evening and availability is on a first come first serve basis.

The bus will leave Mitchell High School at 4 p.m. Thursday and return after the second game of the evening session. Waiver forms are at the high school or those interested can email

MBA holding pancake feed

The Mitchell Baseball Association is hosting its annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mitchell Middle School.

During that time, there is also a rummage sale in the school’s gym. All baseball parents are asked to refer to the MBA’s website ( for information on rummage sale set up.

There is also a parent meeting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Wagner girls finish atop LMVC

The Wagner girls’ basketball team finished 6-0 in the Little Missouri Valley Conference and had two players named to the first team.

Sophomores Ali Kuca and Emily Brunsing were named to the all-conference first team and senior Gina Soukup was named to the second team.

Avon, which finished 5-1 in the conference, had two players named to the first team, including seniors Chesney Nagel and Ariana Oorlog. Scotland’s Carley Skorepa also made the first team.

Bon Homme (3-3), Parkston (3-3), Scotland (3-3) and Tripp-Delmont/Armour (1-5) also had players named to the list. Andes Central finished 0-6 in the conference.

Winner girls atop SESD standings

The Winner girls’ basketball team finished 7-0 in the Southeastern South Dakota Conference this season and had two players named to the first team.

Warrior seniors Kelsey Bertram and Cassidy Hanson, Chamberlain senior Kennedy Wagner, Mount Vernon/Plankinton sophomore Megan Bultsma and Wagner sophomore Ali Kuca made the all-conference first team.

MVP finished second behind Winner, going 6-1 in conference play, followed by Chamberlain (5-2) and Wagner (3-4).

Southeastern South Dakota Conference honors

Team standings: Winner (7-0), Mount Vernon/Plankinton (6-1), Chamberlain (5-2), Wagner (4-3), Platte (3-4), Parkston (2-5), Bon Homme 1-6, Gregory 0-7.
