Marlin girls finish 8th at state

WATERTOWN — The Mitchell Marlin girls’ varsity hockey team finished eighth at the state tournament Sunday.

The Marlins, who took second in 2013, fell 6-5 in overtime to Oahe in the seventh-place game. Haley Stahl, who was the only Marlin to earn all-tournament honors, and Kylie Barington each scored two goals in the loss. Stahl was named to the second team.

Michelle Wyatt added a goal and an assist, Alex Jones had an assist and Kayla Murtha tallied two assists Sunday.

Tiadra Simmermon was in goal for Mitchell, making 33 saves on 39 shots. The Marlins were outshot 39-24.

In Saturday’s consolation semifinal game, the Marlins suffered a 5-2 loss to Huron. Barington made two goals in the game, while Stahl recorded an assist. Simmermon made 44 saves

Sioux Falls won the tournament, beating Watertown 4-3 in the championship Sunday.
