Marlins ease to 9-3 win over Huron, Thill records hat trick
Jacob Thill recorded a hat trick to help the Mitchell Marlins boys’ varsity hockey team beat the Huron Allstars 9-3 Friday at the Mitchell Activities Center.
Thill scored Mitchell’s first two goals in the first period and capped off the scoring for the Marlins with his final goal in the third period.
“It was fantastic,” Mitchell Marlins hockey coach John Lord said of Thill’s performance. “We’ve got that every day from Jacob in practice. He has a wicked shot, so it was nice to see him have a breakout game.”
Jacob Cersosimo and Bryce Geraets each added two goals, while Alex Thill and Matt Muth tallied one apiece. Spencer Neugebauer added two assists for Mitchell as well.
Lord said Geraets was a player who has seen a lot of ice time on regular shifts, but came away with two really nice goals.
“I thought we did a very good job,” Lord said. “The entire team as a whole played very well.”
Huron was led by Jake Axtmann, who scored two goals. Axtmann’s first goal came in the first period, while his second came early in the third period.
The Marlins (5-7) hit the ice again at 8 p.m. today against Brookings in Brookings.
