MCS boys fall to Wolsey-Wessington

In the first of four home games, the Mitchell Christian boys’ basketball team fell 82-48 to Wolsey-Wessington Monday.

“Our goal was to come out and stop their penetration to the basket,” Mitchell Christian coach Dennis Martin said. “We did that but they hit some big threes early and that pulled them away.

“Wolsey-Wessington is a pretty athletic team and we weren’t able to recover from getting down early.”

The Golden Eagles (4-7) had three players score in double figures. Leading the way was Austin Bormann with 17 points, while Wes VanderPol had 10 points and Chandler Nelson added 16 in the loss. Bormann and VanderPol also each knocked down two 3-pointers for the Golden Eagles, who had 14 turnovers and 11 rebounds.

“Austin runs the court for us pretty well at both ends,” Martin said, adding the team was without Ethan Cooper due to illness.

No stats were available for Wolsey-Wessington (8-2), which hosts Kimball/White Lake Friday in Wolsey.

The Golden Eagles host Ethan Thursday at Mitchell Christian School.
