Area high school basketball: Ethan's Bartscher scores 1,000th point in win

ETHAN — Ethan’s Blake Bartscher scored his 1,000th career point in a 66-44 win over Wessington Springs Friday in high school boys’ basketball action in Ethan.

Bartscher was one of two Rustlers to finish with a double-double, scoring 22 points and dishing out 10 assists.

Jace Connor added 16 points and 13 rebounds in the win for Ethan, which shot 28-of-52 from the field.

Wessington Springs was led by Braden Jones with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Jase Kraft contributed nine points in the loss.

The Spartans (2-4) won the JV game and play in the 281 Conference tournament Jan. 18, while Ethan (4-1) plays Bridgewater-Emery Monday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Bon Homme 66, Wagner 51

TYNDALL — Jon Barrett recorded a double-double to help the Bon Homme Cavaliers beat Wagner 66-51 in high school boys’ basketball action Friday.

Barrett tallied 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Scott Van Winkle chipped in 18 points. Scott Wieseler added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers, who were 29-of-58 from the field.

The Red Raiders were led by Noah St. Pierre and Derek Soukup. St. Pierre had a team-high 18 points, while Soukup had 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Wagner, which won the JV game 58-39, was 22-of-53 from the field.

Wagner (2-2) plays Corsica/Stickney today in Corsica, while Bon Homme (3-2) hosts Vermillion Tuesday in Tyndall.

Vermillion 46, Parkston 33

PARKSTON — Parkston suffered its first loss of the season Friday as the Trojan boys’ basketball team fell to Vermillion 46-33.

Spencer Lucas and a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jalen Hurley and Zach Scott each added six points. Dillan Thuringer had nine rebounds for Parkston, which was 12-of-39 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line. The Trojans outrebounded the Tanagers 24-23.

Vermillion’s Nick Jensen had 19 points, while Tyrell Harper added 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Vermillion was 17-of-37 from the field and 11-of-20 from the line.

Parkston (5-1) hosts Hanson Monday, while Vermillion (8-0) plays at Bon Homme Tuesday.

Dakota Christian 57, Avon 48

NEW HOLLAND — The Dakota Christian boys’ basketball team picked up its first win of the season, topping Avon 57-48 Friday in New Holland.

The Cadets got 15 points and five assists from Owen Medicine, while Michael Maas added 12 points and nine rebounds. Micah DeWaard finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Cadets, who shot 56 percent as a team.

Avon was led by Logan Mudder with 23 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Brandon Kocmich added 13 points in the loss.

Dakota Christian (1-4) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour Tuesday in Tripp, while Avon (1-5) plays Scotland Tuesday in Scotland.

SCOTLAND — Shane Koster scored a game-high 15 points and added five rebounds as Tripp-Delmont/Armour defeated Scotland 45-40 Friday in a high school boys’ basketball game.

Cody Hrdlicka added 11 points, three rebounds and four steals for the Nighthawks, who were 16-of-48 from the field and 8-of-15 from the line.

Scotland’s Tanner Skorepa had 12 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double, while Anthony Wallach had eight points and five rebounds. The Highlanders were 17-of-59 from the field and 4-of-9 from the line.

TDA (3-4) hosts Kimball/White Lake today in Armour, while Scotland (3-4) hosts Avon Tuesday.

Freeman 73, Bridgewater-Emery 48

EMERY — Cole Paulson scored 25 points to lead the Freeman boys’ basketball team to a 73-48 win over Bridgewater-Emery Friday in Emery.

Brennan Schmidt added 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Flyers, while Joseph Weier chipped in 12 points. Freeman shot 23-of-52 from the field and grabbed 36 rebounds.

Jerret Weber scored a game-high 27 points for the Huskies, while Izak Weber finished with eight rebounds. BE shot 16-of-58 from the field and had 18 rebounds.

BE (2-3) won the JV game 52-32 and plays Colman-Egan today in Colman, Freeman (3-2) plays Marion Friday in Marion.

Parker 64, McCook Central/Montrose 43

PARKER — Jake Anderson recorded a double-double to help the Parker boys’ basketball team beat McCook Central/Montrose 64-43 Friday in the Big East Conference tournament.

Anderson scored 28 points and had and 13 rebounds.

Will Gottlob led the way for MCM with 15 points and nine rebounds. Cole Cheeseman added eight points, while Tim Gassman had seven points and three assists. The Fighting Cougars were 13-of-50 from the field and had 31 rebounds.

McCook Central/Montrose (5-2) plays Garretson today in Salem, while Parker (5-3) plays Sioux Valley today in Salem.

Chester Area 80, Howard 14

PARKER — Chester Area shot 53 percent from the field en route to beating the Howard boys’ basketball team 80-14 Friday in the Big East Conference tournament.

Jesse Kreutzfeldt scored 18 points for Chester Area. Jacob Schoeberl chipped in with 14 points.

Logan Hattervig had five points and four rebounds for Howard. Keaton Hoyer added four points and two rebounds. Howard was 6-of-37 from the field and 1-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Howard (0-6) plays Baltic today at the Big East Conference tournament, while Chester Area (4-4) plays Flandreau in Salem.

ALCESTER — The Alcester-Hudson boys’ basketball team beat Menno 64-52 Saturday.

Sam Jensen led the way for Alcester-Hudson with 26 points. Grant Johnson chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Menno was led by Dustin Lehr, who tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Dylan Lehr had a team-high 13 points, while Caleb Preszler had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Wolves were 20-of-59 from the field with 43 rebounds. Menno won the JV game 33-32.

AH (6-3) plays Irene-Wakonda Tuesday in Wakonda, while Menno (2-4) hosts Bridgewater-Emery Friday in Menno.

COLTON — The Platte-Geddes boys’ basketball team topped Tri-Valley 49-47 Friday in Colton.

Coby Johnson led the Black Panthers with 17 points and eight rebounds. Carter Dykstra added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Tate Wagner contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

PG outrebounded Tri-Valley 33-28. The Mustangs were led by Brendon Boomsma with 19 points.

PG (5-2) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour Friday in Armour. Tri-Valley (5-2) won the JV game and plays Tea Area Tuesday in Tea.

PARKSTON — The Vermillion girls’ basketball team beat Parkston 60-28 Friday.

Josie Huber led the way for Vermillion with 21 points and six rebounds.

Sam Herrold had seven points for Parkston, while Sadie Schoenfelder tallied six points. Justine Alley had a team-high six rebounds for the Trojans, who were 10-of-38 from the field and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Parkston (1-7) plays Wagner Thursday in Wagner, while Vermillion (6-2) won the JV game 31-11 hosts Madison Tuesday.

TYNDALL — The Wagner girls’ basketball team earned its first win of the season Friday after beating Bon Homme 53-39.

Ali Kuca recorded a team-best 14 points and Emily Brunsing had 11 points and eight rebounds for Wagner, which was 18-of-58 from the field and 13-of-23 from the line. Gina Soukup added seven rebounds and six assists. The Red Raiders had 23 turnovers and 38 rebounds.

Bon Homme was led by Kelsey Sutera with 14 points and seven rebounds. Liz Kubal added eight rebounds for the Cavaliers, who were 15-of-56 from the field and 3-of-9 from the line. Bon Homme had 21 turnovers and 33 rebounds.

Wagner (1-5) plays at Corsica/Stickney today, while Bon Homme (3-5) hosts Freeman Monday.

MILLER — The Lyman girls’ basketball team topped Sunshine Bible Academy 53-33 Friday in Miller.

The Raiders were led by Anna Flitner with 16 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Bailey Almond added eight points, four assists and four steals, while Chesney Garnos chipped in five points and a game-high nine steals.

SBA was led by Susan Wilken with 10 points. The Raiders shot 17-of-50 from the field and were outrebounded 41-36.

Lyman (6-2) plays Chamberlain Tuesday in Chamberlain, while SBA (2-6) plays Lower Brule Tuesday in Miller.

Gustafson finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Rachel Hawkins 14 points and six assists for the Rustlers. Ethan shot 33-of-58 from the field and grabbed 30 rebounds as a team.

The Spartans go a team-high 15 points from Sheyanne Brodkorb, whle Shyanne Kopfmann added eight points and nine rebounds. Wessington Springs shot 13-of-40 from the field and had 23 team rebounds.

Ethan (6-2) plays Bridgewater-Emery Monday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, while the Spartans (1-7) play Hitchcock-Tulare in the 281 Conference tournament Friday in Wolsey.

The Hawks were led by Chloe Nielson with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Kassidy Buse added 12 points and five assists. Canistota shot 18-of-46 from the field and grabbed 28 rebounds.

Centerville was led by Carleigh Oster with 11 points.
