Parkston wrestling places 12 at SF tourney

SIOUX FALLS — The Parkston wrestling team continued its early season dominance, finishing first among several Class A and B teams at the Floyd Farrand Invitational hosted by Sioux Falls Lincoln Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Trojans placed 12 wrestlers, with five making it to the championship round. As a team Parkston finished with 220 points, easily ahead of second-place Sturgis, which scored 179.

“We went out there knowing that we could compete with everyone there and that we should be able to win,” Parkston coach Jared Digmann said.

While pleased with the win, Digmann knows his Parkston, which competes in Class B, can be even better.

“I personally don’t think we wrestled to our potential,” Digmann said. “We had some guys step up and wrestle well. But we lost some matches because we mentally lost them. The main goal of course is the end of the year.”

Blake Bietz (132) and Brady Reiff (220) took first in their respective weight classes for Parkston.

“Blake wrestled some really good A school guys and won,” Digmann said. “He definitely had a really good tournament and has the right mindset every time he steps on the mat.”

Wes Dvorak (152), Mitch Heisinger (182) and Austin Bertram (285) each finished second for the Trojans, while Miles Semmler (170) and Andrew Semmler (195) each finished third.

Logan Mahoney (113), Kyler Holzbauer (120), Dawson Semmler (126) and Chase Stoebner (145) each placed fifth for Parkston, while Dillon Stadlman (160) took seventh.

Howard’s Luke Loudenburg took the title in the 138-pound weight class, while Wagner’s David Kocer (170) and Trevor Lensing (182) each finished first as well.
