Area high school volleyball roundup: Ethan beats TDA in final regular season match

ETHAN — Darbi Gustafson recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 14 digs in Ethan’s three-set win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Monday in high school volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.

Ethan’s Anna Mueller had 13 kills, Danika Pollreisz totaled 13 digs and Kacey Bartscher added 12 kills. Holley Lindeman tallied a match-high 35 assists.

Jessica Sandau had eight kills and two aces in the loss, while Hannah Just recorded five assists.

TDA won the JV match 2-0.

Ethan ends the regular season 18-6, while the Nighthawks (3-19) play Dakota Christian in District 11B action Nov. 5.

Wagner 3, Burke/South Central 0

BONESTEEL — Wagner’s Kayla Deurmier had a match-high 35 assists in the Red Raiders’ 25-6, 25-15, 25-13 win over Burke/South Central Monday.

Gina Soukup posted 11 digs and 11 kills for a double-double and added four aces for Wagner. Kim Koupal had 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double and added three aces, while Brooklyn Tolliver tallied 10 digs.

The Cougars were led by Shailhyn Scheigert with 10 aces and seven assists. Grace Hazen had six kills, four digs and six aces, while Bailee Matucha added six digs.

Burke/South Central (4-22) plays in the District 12B tournament Nov. 5, while Wagner ends its season 23-6.

Jones County 3, Chamberlain 0

CHAMBERLAIN — The Chamberlain volleyball team fell to Jones County 25-16, 26-24, 25-17 Monday in its final regular-season match.

Kennedy Wagner tallied four aces, 15 digs, six kills and six assists for the Cubs. Hallie Hallock had five kills, while Abbey Handel added five assists.

Chamberlain (7-19) won the JV match and plays in the Region 6A tournament Nov. 5.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 0

WOONSOCKET — Mount Vernon/Plankinton beat Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 25-12, 25-10, 25-17 in a high school volleyball match Monday.

For Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Mikayla Weiss had 18 assists and 13 digs for a double-double and Makaela Karst had eight kills.

For Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, Marissa Weber had 10 digs and five kills. Morgan Selland had six digs and three kills.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (23-3) won the JV match and plays Winner Thursday in Plankinton, while Sanborn Central/Woonsocket ends its regular season 15-10.

Parker 3, Howard 0

PARKER — Parker beat Howard 25-8, 25-10, 25-7 in a high school volleyball match Monday night.

For Howard, Kelsey Dawson recorded four kills and Shelby Thompson had six assists.

For Parker, Jenny Smith had 24 assists and six aces and Allison Sanner added 12 kills and four aces.

Howard (3-17) plays Colman-Egan Thursday in Howard. Parker, which won both the JV and C matches, finished the regular season 24-4.

Marion 3, Freeman 0

MARION — Kaitlyn Engbrecht had 17 assists and 16 digs for a double-double in Marion’s 3-0 victory over Freeman Monday in high school volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-18.

Marion’s Erica Schoenwald had 17 kills and eight digs.

For Freeman, Nicole Hinckley had seven kills and seven digs and Mandy Pravecek had 13 assists and six digs.

Marion won the JV match and ends the regular season 15-9. Freeman (4-14) plays Alcester-Hudson Thursday in Freeman.

Kimball/White Lake 3,

Dakota Christian 0

WHITE LAKE — The Kimball/White Lake WiLdKats beat Dakota Christian in three sets Monday in a high school volleyball match.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-7, 25-19.

Ivy Haines had eight kills to lead the way for KWL. Jazmyn Hinker chipped in with six kills and two aces, while Kelli Steffen had five kills. Paige Munsen added five digs, six aces and 12 assists.

Dakota Christian was led by Brooke Vander Pol. She recorded six kills, five blocks, 10 digs and one ace. Kennedy Muckey added two aces, two kills and one block.

KWL won the JV match 2-0.

Dakota Christian (4-22) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour in the District 11B tournament Nov. 5, while KWL (16-7) plays the winner of Dakota Christian vs. Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nov. 7 in the District 11B tournament.

Mitchell Christian 3, Corsica/Stickney 1

Cassidy Graham recorded 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double in Mitchell Christian’s four-set victory over Corsica/Stickney Monday at Mitchell Christian School.

Set scores were 25-10, 25-21, 25-27, 25-20.

Graham also had three aces in the win. Ellie Bleeker tallied four aces and 16 digs, Abbie Reynen had five aces, 11 kills, two blocks and six digs and Emily Schrag totaled a match-high 31 assists.

Corsica/Stickney’s Rachel Milligan had 13 assists and five digs, Brianna Kuyper tallied 12 digs and one aces and Hope Menning had five kills and 12 digs.

Mitchell Christian (11-10) plays at Freeman Academy today, while the Jaguars (6-17) play in the District 11B tournament Nov. 7.

Lyman 3, Stanley County 0

PRESHO — The Lyman volleyball team defeated Stanley County in straight sets Monday for its 21st win of the season.

Set scores were 25-13, 27-25, 25-11.

The Raiders (21-8) were undefeated in the Western Great Plains Conference this season.

Leading the way Monday was Anna Flitner with 11 digs and 19 kills for a double-double. She added four aces and three blocks, while Bailey Almond tallied 18 assists. Sara Herman posted a team-best 19 digs, Brooklyn Halverson added five blocks and Hanna Thiry had 10 assists.

Lyman plays in the District 13B tournament next.

Scotland 3, Menno 0

SCOTLAND — The Scotland Highlanders beat Menno 25-12, 25-16, 25-19 in a high school volleyball match Monday night.

Carley Skoropa had 17 kills and 16 digs four a double-double for Scotland. Jaycie Geiman had 13 digs and Amber Alvey had 30 assists in the win.

For Menno, Christina Herrboldt had 16 digs and Madison Huber had four kills and five digs.

Menno ends the regular season 3-19, while Scotland ends the regular season 10-16.

Andes Central 3, Gregory 1

GREGORY — The Andes Central volleyball team beat Gregory in four sets Monday.

Set scores were 16-15, 25-22, 25-12, 25-22.

For Andes Central, Payton Johanneson had 15 kills and 12 digs and Dennisha Johanneson recorded 14 kills and 14 digs. Both girls recorded a double-double.

For Gregory, Courtney Opbroek had 16 kills, Mackenzie Odenbach had 13 kills and Brett Steffen added 33 assists.

Gregory won the JV match and ends the regular season 11-15, while Andes Central end the regular season 13-12.

Hanson 3,

McCook Central/Montrose 2

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson edged McCook Central/Montrose 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 15-4 in a high school volleyball match Monday night.

Hanson’s Leah Marsh had 31 digs, Emily Brown tallied 22 assists and Kynedi Cheeseman posted a match-high 21 kills.

Laura Klaudt had 30 assists for for McCook Central/Montrose. C.J. Ristesund recorded a double-double with 20 digs and 16 kills, and Brianna Painter had 20 digs also.

Hanson ends the regular season 22-1, while McCook Central/Montrose ends the regular season 10-14.

Hanson won the JV match 2-1.

Winner 3, Platte-Geddes 0

PLATTE — Winner’s Sara Husher tallied 19 digs and 24 assists for a double-double in the Warriors’ 25-23, 25-15, 25-22 win over Platte-Geddes Monday in high school volleyball action.

Brianna Erickson had two aces and 15 digs for the Black Panthers, while Josie DeGroot tallied 15 kills and 22 digs for a double-double. Madi Whalen had eight kills, two blocks and 10 assists, Shelby Johnson posted seven kills, two blocks and 17 digs and Jermaine Nelson added two blocks. Cassidy Plooster added 10 assists.

Winner’s Kennedy Mathis had two aces and Kelsey Bertram recorded one ace and eight kills. Cassidy Hanson had 12 kills, while Emily Richey added 17 digs for the Warriors.

Platte-Geddes (12-12) plays Corsica/Stickney in the District 11B tournament Thursday, while Winner (22-3) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton Thursday in Plankinton.

Madison 3, Parkston 2

MADISON — Laura Weiss totaled 22 kills and 10 blocks for a double-double in Parkston’s 3-2 loss to Madison Monday in high school volleyball action.

Parkston’s Hannah Heisinger had 12 digs and Whitney Weber had 29 assists.

No stats were reported for Madison.

Parkston ends the regular season 16-12. Madison (18-10) plays Tea Area in Madison Thursday night.

Canistota 3, Irene-Wakonda 2

WAKONDA — The Canistota volleyball team defeated Irene-Wakonda in five sets Monday.

Set scores were 20-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-15, 15-12.

No stats were reported for this match.

The Hawks (8-14) play at Dell Rapids St. Mary Thursday.

Gayville-Volin 3, Avon 0

GAYVILLE — The Gayville-Volin volleyball team topped Avon 25-13, 25-22, 25-22 Monday.
