Area high school football roundup 10/25/13: Winner, Avon, Howard stay unbeaten

BURKE — Turner Serr had 28 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns to lead Burke/South Central over Colome 15-12 Thursday in its final game of the regular season.

Tyson Serr recorded 36 yards on eight carries for the Cougars, while Levi Schonebaum had three carries for 18 yards. Zach Sebern completed 4 of 8 passes for 52 yards and Jordan Jones led the receiving corps hauling in two receptions for 22 yards. Defensively, Turner Serr had a team-high 12 tackles and Sam Hazen tallied 11 tackles.

Terrance Kinzer had 21 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys. Chase Hrabanek recorded 16 carries for 42 yards, Lane Fawcett made two catches for 38 yards and Jacob Worden had one reception for 24 yards and a score. Kinzer and Reed Harter led the Cowboy defense with 12 tackles apiece and Kinzer also recovered a fumble.

Colome (6-2) will play in the first round of the Class 9A playoffs Tuesday, while Burke/South Central (6-2) hosts a Class 9B first-round playoff game Tuesday.

Kimball/White Lake 22, Corsica/Stickney 6 STICKNEY — Kimball/White Lake held off Corsica/Stickney for a 22-6 win Thursday in the final game of the regular season.

Eathen Gaulke recorded 17 carries for 111 yards and Turner Blasius rushed for 37 yards and a score on nine carries for the WiLdKats. Riley Talbot completed 5 of 5 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Blasius had a game-high 12 tackles and Gaulke added eight.

Austin Tilton had 16 carries for 76 yards for the Jaguars, while Brian Joachim had 20 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Mason VanVuuren threw one pass for 27 yards and Kade Rexwinkel had a team-high eight tackles. Joachim and Bailey Lagge each tallied seven tackles for Corsica/Stickney.

The WiLdKats (6-2) play Tuesday in the first round of the Class 9AA playoffs, while the Jaguars (4-4) play in the first round of the Class 9A playoffs Tuesday.

Chamberlain 54, Crow Creek 6 CHAMBERLAIN — Hunter Hallock scored 38 of Chamberlain’s 54 points in the Cubs’ 54-6 victory Thursday in high school football action.

The game ended in the second quarter due to the mercy rule.

Hallock had 19 carries for 194 yards and four touchdowns and Chris Schwartz had four carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Dylan Dominiack had 4.5 tackles and Knippling, Hallock and Hunter Knippling.

Crow Creek’s Theron Big Eagle completed two passes for 45 yards and a score.

Chamberlain ends the regular season 4-4 and will play in the first round of the Class 11A playoffs Tuesday, while Crow Creek ends its season 1-7.

Winner 40, Wagner 6 WINNER — The top-ranked Winner Warriors finished the regular season 8-0 as they defeated Wagner 40-6 Thursday in a high school football game.

Winner was led by Trace Meyer, who had 15 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Nathan Galbraith had eight carries for 114 yards and one touchdown, while Tyrel Haley rushed for 100 yards and a score on six carries.

Defensively, Jay Brandis recorded a team-high nine tackles for Winner.

Wagner’s David Kocer rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Kocer also hauled in four passes for 38 yards, while quarterback Dylan Brunsing was 9-of-35 for 79 yards.

Winner hosts a Class 11B first-round playoff game Tuesday, while Wagner (4-4) plays a first-round playoff game Tuesday.

Gregory 53, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0 GREGORY — Scott Shoemaker had four tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery to help the Gregory Gorillas beat Tripp-Delmont/Armour 53-0 by mercy rule Thursday.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour finished the game with 24 yards of total offense. The Nighthawks were led by Gunnar Dally, who rushed 14 times for 25 yards.

Kurt Braun tallied 102 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and 124 yards and one touchdown through the air to lead Gregory. Gavin Thomas was Braun’s main target, catching two passes for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Derek Stukel added 45 rushing yards and one touchdown and Jonah Beck chipped in with eight tackles for the Gorillas.

Gregory (7-1) plays in the first round of the Class 9AA playoffs Tuesday in Gregory, while TDA ends its season 1-7.

Avon 44, Andes Central 8 AVON — Avon beat Andes Central 44-8 Thursday night to remain undefeated.

Brandon Kocmich ran five times for 82 yards and two touchdowns and Logan Mudder had two carries for 51 yards and one touchdown for the Pirates.

For Andes Central, Angel Alcaraz had eight rushes for 40 yards and Chris Bad Hand had eight rushes for 54 yards and one touchdown.

Avon ends the regular season 8-0 and hosts a Class 9B first-round playoff game Tuesday. Andes Central ends its regular season 3-5.

Hanson’s Jacob Paradeis had 14 carries for 238 yards and five touchdowns and Sam VanderStouwe had eight tackles.

For Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Colt Hinker had 16 rushes for 122 yards and Cole Sonne made a team-high 10 tackles.

Hanson ends the regular season 3-5 and plays a first-round Class 9A playoff game Tuesday. Mount Vernon/Plankinton 2-6 ends the regular season.

Tim Gassman had 13 carries for 90 yards and Will Gottlob recorded a team-high 10 tackles for McCook Central/Montrose.

Kegan Van Egdom had 25 carries for 68 yards in the loss.

McCook Central/Montrose ends the regular season 4-4 and plays in the first round of the Class 11B high school football playoffs. Sioux Falls Christian ends the regular season 2-6.

Howard 62, Freeman 32 HOWARD — The Howard Tigers had an undefeated regular season after beating Freeman 62-32 Thursday.

Howard’s Luke Loudenburg had six carries for 106 yards and three touchdowns and Jordan Kuhle had two rushes for 96 yards.

For Freeman, Jalen Kaufman had 13 carries for 78 yards and Cody Roth had a team-high 11 tackles in the loss.

Howard (8-0) hosts a Class 9A first-round playoff game Tuesday, while Freeman ends the season 0-8.

Wolsey-Wessington 42, Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 22 WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/ Sanborn Central Quarterback Joe Davis threw for 162 yards and three touchdowns on eight completions, but it was not enough as the Blackhawks fell to Wolsey-Wessington 42-22 Thursday.

Austin Mesmer added 75 yards on the ground, while Jevon Hohn tallied 53 yards on three carries for the Blackhawks. Jacob Solberg had 14 tackles and Austin Mesmer recorded 12 to lead the Blackhawk defense.

Wolsey-Wessington was led by Ryan Johnson and Lorenzo Williams. Johnson rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown, while Williams completed three passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Williams also ran for two scores.

WWSSC (5-3) plays in the 9AA playoffs Tuesday. W-W (8-0) plays in the 9A playoffs Tuesday.

Canistota 22, Garretson 16 CANISTOTA — The Canistota Hawks handed Garretson its first loss of the season with a 22-16 win Thursday.

Nick Hofer ran for 154 yards and one touchdown for Canistota. Hofer also recorded seven tackles for Canistota on defense. Jacob Buseman had a team-leading nine tackles for the Hawks.

Quarterback Shay Jolley was 9-of-17 for 126 yards and two touchdowns for Canistota. Jerad Nielsen was Jolley’s main target. He caught four passes for 84 yards.

Garretson was led by Austin Mathiessen, who rushed 15 times for 86 yards.

Canistota (4-4) plays in the Class 9B playoffs Tuesday. Garretson (7-1) plays in the 9AA playoffs Tuesday.

Menno/Marion 56, Baltic 13 MARION — Nick Gortmaker had 136 yards and four touchdowns on the ground to help the Menno/Marion Razorbacks beat Baltic 56-13 Thursday.

Chet Peterson added two more rushing touchdowns and 58 yards for the Razorbacks. Gortmaker also completed three passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

The Razorback defense was led by Dylan Lehr, who recorded two interceptions and two tackles.

Quarterback Kyler Johnson led the way for Baltic. He threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Menno/Marion (4-4) will play in the Class 9AA playoffs Tuesday. Baltic ends its season 1-7.

Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian 46, Lower Brule 6 LOWER BRULE — Coby Johnson completed four passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns to help Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian beat Lower Brule 46-6 Thursday.

Platte-Geddes also got help on the ground from Matt Warejcka and Jayden VanZee. Warejcka ran five times for 82 yards and two touchdowns, while VanZee carried the ball three times for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Lawrence Flute led the way for Lower Brule. He tallied 117 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.

The Black Panthers end the regular season 3-5, while Lower Brule finishes 0-8.

Skyler Miller had a team leading 158 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries for Jones County. Chad Johnson added 104 yards on 15 carries.

No stats for Lyman or scoring summary were reported despite attempts reach coaches.

Lyman ends the regular season 1-7, while Jones County finished 2-6.
