Area high school volleyball 10/23/13: No. 3 Winner beats Wagner in four sets

WAGNER — Winner’s Emily Richey led all players with 41 digs in the third-ranked Warriors’ four-set win over Wagner in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-18, 19-25, 25-15, 25-17.

Kelsey Bertram had 10 kills, Lindsey Calhoon tallied 32 digs and Sara Husher added 34 assists for Winner.

Kim Koupal had 11 kills and 25 digs for a double-double for Wagner. Emily Brunsing added eight kills and four blocks, Brooklyn Tolliver had 32 digs and Kayla Deurmier had 28 assists in the loss.

Wagner (18-6) plays at the SESD Conference tournament Saturday in Parkston, while Winner (21-3) won the JV match and plays Platte-Geddes Monday in Platte.

Parkston 3, Bon Homme 1

TYNDALL — The Parkston volleyball team dropped the first set but came back to win the next three in a 3-1 win over Bon Homme Tuesday.

Set scores were 16-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-18.

Parkston’s Laura Weiss recorded a team-high 14 kills, six blocks and three aces. Abbie Mechtenberg had 12 digs and Whitney Weber had 24 assists and 10 digs for a double-double. Sadie Schoenfelder added 10 digs in the win.

Vanessa Navratil led the Cavaliers with 31 digs, while Alie Adams totaled 41 assists and 15 digs for a double-double. Caitlin McLouth had a match-high 15 kills and five blocks.

Bon Homme (16-6) won the JV match and plays Viborg-Hurley Friday in Hurley, while Parkston (14-9) won the C match and hosts the SESD Conference tournament Saturday.

Corsica/Stickney 3, Avon 0

AVON — Brianna Kuyper had a match-high 14 digs in Corsica/Stickney’s 25-9, 25-12, 25-18 win over Avon Tuesday in a high school volleyball match.

Rachell Milligan tallied 25 assists, six digs and one ace, Jackie Dethlefsen recorded eight kills, three blocks, four digs and three aces and Hope Menning added eight kills, seven digs and eight aces in the win. Brittni Moke and Micayla Bamberg each had seven kills.

Avon’s Amanda Reiff led the way with eight digs, two kills and one ace. Chesney Nagel added four kills, seven digs, two blocks and three aces for Avon, which won the B and C matches.

The Jaguars (7-16) plays at Mitchell Christian Monday, while Avon (10-11) plays at Menno Friday.

Boyd County, Neb. 3, Gregory 0

GREGORY — The Gregory volleyball team fell 25-21, 25-11, 25-16 to Boyd County, Neb., Tuesday in Gregory.

Gregory’s Courtney Opbroek led offensively with 11 kills, eight digs and two aces. Codi Horst added 15 digs and Brett Steffen had 13 assists for the Gorillas.

Boyd County, which won the JV and C matches, was led by Drew Purviance with 21 assists and one ace. Natalie Rihanek added 13 kills, six digs and one ace in the win. Hannah Sobatka had 14 kills and 17 digs for a double-double.

Gregory (10-11) plays in the SESD conference tournament Saturday in Parkston.

Hanson 3, Freeman 0

FREEMAN — Hailey Doyle tallied a match-high 19 assists in Hanson’s 25-22, 25-4, 26-24 victory over Freeman Tuesday in high school volleyball action.

Kynedi Cheeseman posted nine kills and four aces and Leah Marsh had 14 digs for the Beavers.

Freeman was led by Shelby Johnson with seven kills, 15 digs and one ace. Haley Glanzer added 15 digs, Nicole Hinckley had four kills, four blocks and 11 digs and Mady Pravecek had 17 assists and 11 digs for a double-double.

Hanson (21-1) won the JV and C matches and hosts McCook Central/Montrose Monday, while Freeman (3-13) plays at Centerville Friday.

Kimball/White Lake 3, Platte-Geddes 0

PLATTE — The Kimball/White Lake volleyball team beat the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers Tuesday in three sets.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.

Jazmyn Hinker led the way for the WiLdKats with 10 kills and five aces. Haley Pazour added nine kills and eight digs, Ivy Haines had nine kills and Anna Pazour had 15 digs. Mary Kroupa chipped in with 25 assists for the WiLdKats.

Platte-Geddes was led by Josie DeGroot, who recorded seven kills, six blocks and one ace. Madi Whalen and Shelby Johnson each added four kills. Whalen also had six assists, two aces and three blocks.

Platte-Geddes (10-11) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton at the SESD Conference tournament Saturday in Parkston. The WiLdKats (14-7) play at Colome Friday.

Highmore-Harrold 3, Lyman 1

HIGHMORE — The Lyman Raiders fell in four sets to Highmore-Harrold Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-12, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22.

Anna Flitner led the way for Lyman. She recorded 22 kills, four blocks and four aces.

Lyman’s Bailey Almond added 15 assists, while Haley Halverson had three blocks and Hanna Thiry had 13 assists and one ace. Brooklyn Halverson chipped in with three kills for the Raiders.

Highmore-Harrold was led by Tierny Hamlin. She recorded 16 kills and five blocks.

Lyman (20-8) hosts Stanley County Monday in Presho, while Highmore-Harrold (15-9) plays Stanley County Friday in Fort Pierre.

Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 0

TULARE — The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks fell to Hitchcock-Tulare Tuesday in three sets.

Set scores were 25-11, 25-22, 25-18.

Marissa Weber and Myah Selland each had six kills to lead the way for the Blackhawks. Weber also had 13 digs, while Morgan Selland five kills, and 13 digs.

Hitchcock-Tulare was led by LaMour Binger, who recorded 11 kills and 10 digs. Erin Barrie added 10 kills, while Saige Peterson had 10 assists and three aces.

Hitchcock-Tulare (16-9) hosts Wessington Springs Monday in Hitchcock, while SCW (15-8) plays Bridgewater-Emery Friday in Emery.

Canistota 3, Menno 2

CANISTOTA — Canistota edged Menno 26-28, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-8 Tuesday in high school volleyball action.

Chloe Nielson tallied a match-high 13 kills and four aces for the Hawks. Morgan Larson added 20 assists, five digs and four aces, while Brianna Buseman tallied four kills in the win.

Menno’s Madison Huber had 11 assists and 10 digs for a double-double and added two kills and five serves. Tara Spencer recorded a match-high 18 digs, four blocks, seven kills and two aces.

Canistota (6-13) plays at Baltic Friday, while Menno (3-17) hosts Avon Friday.

Wessington Springs 3, James Valley Christian 2

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Sheyanne Brodkorb had 15 kills and nine digs to help Wessington Springs beat James Valley Christian in five sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 10-25, 25-17, 15-6.

Shyanne Kopfman chipped in with 10 kills, five digs and two aces for the Spartans. Lexi Olinger added 22 assists, while Morgan had 15 assists and Monica Jones and Devin Tebay each had two blocks.

JVC was led by Kristen Williams, who recorded two aces, five assists, five blocks and 35 digs. Hannah Loban also had 35 digs, seven assists and three blocks for JVC. Khiree Held chipped in with six kills.

Wessington Springs won the JV match 2-0.

Wessington springs (8-15) plays Miller Friday in Wessington Springs. JVC (4-16) plays Sunshine Bible Academy Friday in Miller.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Tea 2

TEA — Laura Klaudt recorded 40 assists and 14 digs for a double-double to help McCook Central/Montrose beat Tea Area in five sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-23, 13-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Nicole Bies chipped in with 20 digs and five kills, while Brianna Painter had 34 digs, three aces and three kills in the win. Nicole Roth added 15 kills and Marissa Painter had 11 kills.

MCM won the JV match 2-1.

MCM (10-12) plays Marion Friday in Montrose. Tea Area (6-13) plays Tri-Valley in Colton.

White River 3, Chamberlain 1

WHITE RIVER — The Chamberlain Cubs volleyball team fell to White River in four sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 23-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-22.

Chamberlain was led Kennedy Wagner. She recorded 17 digs, three aces, nine kills and eight assists. Hallie Hallock added six kills, while Alli Stekelberg had 23 digs. Kylie Bertram had three blocks, Brigitte Byrd recorded three aces and Abbey Handel had 10 assists for Chamberlain.

White River won the JV match 2-1.

Chamberlain (4-15) plays at the SESD Conference tournament Saturday in Parkston. White River (8-13) plays in a tournament Saturday in Rapid City.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Andes Central 1

EMERY — Justine Dye had 18 kills, 13 digs and four blocks to help Bridgewater-Emery beat Andes Central in four sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 25-17.

Tiana Kayser added 12 kills, while Aly Hanssen had 23 assists and two aces in the win. Hannah Harberts chipped in with 17 assists and two assists, while Mallory Haiar had 12 kills.

Andes Central was led by Payton Johanneson, who recorded 11 kills and 21 digs for a double-double. Dennisha Johanneson added 12 kills, while Emily Houseman had 14 assists, nine digs and four aces. Makayla Pavel chipped in with 14 assists, and four aces.

Bridgewater-Emery won the JV match 2-1.

The Huskies (14-8) host Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Friday in Emery, while Andes Central (12-11) hosts Mitchell Christian Friday in Lake Andes.

Baltic 3, Howard 1

BALTIC — The Howard Tigers fell to Baltic in four sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-10.

No scores were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.
