Area high school volleyball 10/8/13: Corsica/Stickney records 3rd straight win

NEW HOLLAND — After dropping its first 12 matches of the season, Corsica/Stickney won for the third time in a row, topping Dakota Christian in three sets Monday in New Holland.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 25-18.

Micayla Bamberg had a team-high eight kills for the Jaguars, while Jackie Dethlefsen and Hope Menning each added seven kills. Rachel Milligan racked up a match-high 34 digs for the Jaguars.

Abbi BaanHofman and Kennedy Muckey each had four kills and five blocks for the Cadets.

Corsica/Stickney (3-12) plays Burke/South Central Thursday in Corsica, while Dakota Christian (3-13) plays Bon Homme today in Tyndall.

Mitchell Christian 3, Avon 0

AVON — The Mitchell Christian volleyball team held on in the third set to finish off Avon 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 in high school volleyball action Monday.

Emily Schrag had a match-high 31 assists for Mitchell Christian, while Abbie Reynen added 10 kills and three blocks. Defensively, Ellie Bleeker racked up 23 digs.

Chesney Nagel had eight kills for Avon, while Hanna Powers contributed 16 assists.

Mitchell Christian (7-9) plays Hanson Thursday in Mitchell, while Avon (6-9) plays Burke/South Central today in Bonesteel.

Marion 3, Freeman Academy 0

MARION — Marion topped Freeman Academy 25-14, 25-16, 25-6 in high school volleyball action Monday in Marion.

Erica Schoenwald led Marion with 12 kills, four blocks, 13 digs and two aces. Devin Nelson added six aces, eight kills and 19 digs for the Bears.

Freeman Academy’s Sarah Miller finished with eight assists, five digs and two aces.

Marion won the JV match 2-0.

Marion (11-6) plays Menno today in Marion, while Freeman Academy (2-13) plays Thursday at Centerville.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Baltic 0

SALEM — McCook Central/Montrose defeated Baltic in three sets in a high school volleyball match Monday in Salem.

The set scores were 25-19, 25-12, 25-20.

The Fighting Cougars, who won the JV match, got a match-high 11 kills from Danielle Hansen, while Laura Klaudt racked up 31 assists and 10 digs.

Allie Walter had eight blocks and seven digs to lead Baltic.

MC/M (6-11) plays Howard today in Howard. Baltic (6-8) plays Elkton-Lake Benton today in Elkton.

Wagner 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

ARMOUR — Wagner topped Tripp-Delmont/Armour 25-9, 25-13, 25-19 in high school volleyball action Monday in Armour.

Gina Soukup led the Red Raiders in kills with 14, while Brooklyn Tolliver and Kim Koupal each added 12 digs for Wagner, which won the JV match.

Becca Brown had a match-high 19 digs for the Nighthawks.

Wagner (14-4) plays Scotland today in Wagner, while the Nighthawks (2-13) play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Woonsocket.

Hanson 3, Viborg-Hurley 2

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson prevailed in a tight five-set match against Viborg-Hurley Monday in Hanson.

The set scores were 14-25, 25-13, 25-12, 20-25, 18-16.

Katlyn Schroeder had a match-high 16 kills for the Beavers, while Kynedi Cheeseman added nine kills, 17 digs and three aces. Defensively, Hanson was led by Leah Marsh with 27 digs.

Viborg-Hurley won the JV match 2-1.

Hanson (16-1) plays Mitchell Christian Thursday in Mitchell, while the Cougars play Baltic Thursday in Baltic.

**Kimball/White Lake at Lyman was rescheduled to Saturday due to the rescheduled football game in Presho. The match will be made up Saturday in Presho.

Lyman plays Kadoka Area today in Presho, while The WiLdKats play Chamberlain today in Kimball.
