Area high school volleyball 10/4/13: Bon Homme tops Menno 3-0

TYNDALL — Kelsey Sutera had a match-high 19 digs and six aces to lead Bon Homme over Menno 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 Thursday in a high school volleyball match in Tyndall.

Caitlin McLouth had 15 kills and three blocks and Alie Adams led all players with 20 assists and six aces for the Cavaliers. Liz Kubal also recorded six kills in the win.

For Menno, Chrstina Herrboldt recorded three kills and four digs. Madison Huber had three aces and six assists, while Tara Spencer tallied three blocks.

Bon Homme (12-5) won the JV game and hosts Dakota Christian Tuesday in Tyndall, while Menno (1-9) plays in a tournament Saturday in Marion.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Iroquois 1 FORESTBURG — Rachel Selland had 23 assists, 11 digs and three aces to lift Sanborn Central/Woonsocket to a 4-set victory over Iroquois in the 281 Conference tournament Thursday in Forestburg.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-10.

Marissa Weber had 11 kills, 19 digs and five aces, Morgan Selland recorded 11 killsand Myah Selland tallied 11 blocks and five kills for the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks (10-5) play in the second round of the 281 Conference tournament Thursday.

Winner 3, Wagner 0 WINNER — Emily Richey recorded 31 digs as Winner beat Wagner 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 in a high school volleyball match Thursday night.

Cassidy Hanson had 10 kills and 18 digs for the Warriors, who won the JV match.

For Wagner, Kayla Deurmeier had 20 assists and Kim Koupal added 11 kills and 17 digs for a double-double.

Wagner (12-4) won the C match and plays at Tri-Valley Thursday. Winner (17-2) plays Gregory Tuesday in Winner.

Corsica/Stickney 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0 ARMOUR — Corsica/Stickney defeated Tripp-Delmont/Armour 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 Thursday.

For Corsica/Stickney, Rachel Milligan had 16 assists and Hope Menning tallied 13 digs.

Jessica Sandau recorded seven kills and Hannah Just had seven assists for Tripp-Delmont/Armour.

Corsica/Stickney (2-12) plays Dakota Christian Monday in New Holland, while Tripp-Delmont/Armour (2-12) plays Wagner Monday in Armour.

Tri-Valley 3, McCook Central/Montrose 2 SALEM — The Tri-Valley volleyball team edged McCook Central/Montrose 3-2 Thursday in Salem.

Set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13.

Cally Neises had 12 kills and seven blocks in the win, while Brooklyn King added 16 digs.

C.J. Ristesund tallied 15 kills, two blocks and 15 digs for the Fighting Cougars. Brianna Painter recorded 22 digs and two aces, Annie Boddicker had 22 digs, three kills and two aces and Laura Klaudt contributed 39 assists, 19 digs and two aces.

McCook Central/Montrose (5-11) hosts Baltic Monday in Salem.

Hanson 3, Kimball/White Lake 2 ALEXANDRIA — Leah Marsh led all players with 34 digs and added four aces to lift Hanson over Kimball/White Lake 3-2 Thursday.

Set scores were 21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-12.

Hanson’s Kynedi Cheeseman tallied 15 kills and 23 digs for a double-double, while Sydney Dodd had 10 kills and 32 digs for a double-double. Katlyn Schroeder added 10 kills and a block and Emily Brown had 22 assists.

Jazmyn Hinker had a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs for the WiLdKats. Mary Kroupa contributed 43 assists and 15 digs for a double-double, while Haley Pazour also recorded a double-double with 14 kills, 11 digs and two aces. Ivy Haines had 14 kills and three blocks, while Anna Pazour tallied 21 digs.

Hanson (15-1) won the JV match and hosts Viborg-Hurley Monday, while the WiLdKats (9-6) won the C match and play Lyman Monday in Presho.

Ethan 3, Freeman 0 ETHAN — Ethan beat Freeman 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday night.

For Ethan, Darbi Gustafson had 14 kills and 14 digs, while Holley Lindeman had 29 assists.

Shelby Jensen recorded five kills and five digs and Mady Pravecek had 13 assists in the loss.

Ethan (15-4) plays at Wessington Springs Tuesday, while Freeman (2-8) plays at Dell Rapids St. Mary Monday.

Parkston 3, Scotland 0 PARKSTON — Parkston topped Scotland 3-0 in a high school volleyball game Thursday night.

Set scores were 25-20, 28-26, 25-16.

For Parkston, Laura Weiss led all players with 17 kills and five digs and Whitney Weber tallied 20 assists.

Carley Skorepa had 15 kills and 21 digs for Scotland. Amber Alvey had 26 assists in win.

Parkston (12-5) plays Platte-Geddes Tuesday in Parkston. Scotland (5-6) plays Parker Thursday in Scotland.

Lyman 3, Platte-Geddes 2 PLATTE — After dropping the first two sets to Platte-Geddes, the Lyman volleyball team rallied for a five-set win Thursday in Platte.

The set scores were 25-27, 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 15-8.

The Raiders’ (17-6) comeback was led by Anna Flitner with 21 kills, 42 digs and four blocks. Sara Herman added 37 digs for Lyman, while Bailey Almond had 26 assists.

Platte-Geddes (5-6) middle hitter Josie DeGroot had a team-high 21 kills and Madi Whalen racked up 11 kills, 23 assists and seven aces.

Platte-Geddes won the junior varsity match 2-0.

Lyman plays Kimball/White Lake Monday in Presho, while Platte-Geddes plays at the Marion tournament Saturday.

Gregory, 3, Chamberlain 0 CHAMBERLAIN — Gregory swept Chamberlain on the road 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 in high school volleyball action Thursday in Chamberlain.

Courtney Opbroek had a game-high 19 kills for the Gorillas, while Brett Steffen added 34 assists.

Brigitte Byrd led the Cubs with 20 digs. Kennedy Wagner added five kills and six assists for Chamberlain.

The Gorillas won the JV match 2-1.

Gregory (8-8) plays Winner Tuesday in Winner, while Chamberlain (4-11) plays Crow Creek Monday in Stephan.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 1 FORESTBURG – Wolsey-Wessington bounced back after dropping the first set to Sunshine Bible Academy to win in four sets Thursday.

The set scores were 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-5.

Warbird middle hitter Brittany Bergquist had eight aces, 12 blocks and 12 digs, while Meagan Eggleston added 10 kills, 11 blocks and 11 digs.

Sarah Pedersen had 10 kills to lead SBA.

Wolsey-Wessington (10-5) plays another conference match Saturday.

Dakota Christian 3, Marty 0 MARTY — Dakota Christian beat Marty, 25-6, 25-6, 25-15 in a high school volleyball match Thursday night.

No stats were reported.

Dakota Christian (3-10) plays in a Marion tournament Saturday, while Marty (1-10) plays Crazy Horse Tuesday.

Flandreau 3, Howard 2 FLANDREAU — Flandreau defeated the Howard volleyball team 23-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12 Thursday.

No stats were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.

Flandreau (6-12) plays Colman-Egan Tuesday in Colman, while Howard (2-12) plays McCook Central/Montrose Tuesday in Howard.

Highmore-Harrold 3, Wessington Springs 0 TULARE — Highmore-Harrold defeated Wessington Springs in three sets in the first round of the 281 Conference tournament Thursday in Tulare.

The set scores were 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.
