Area high school football roundup 9/28/13: Blackhawks defeat Black Panthers

PLATTE — Austin Messmer rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns to help Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/ Sanborn Central beat Platte-Geddes/ Dakota Christian 36-6 in a high school football game Friday.

Two of Messmer’s rushing touchdowns were for over 30 yards, including an 86 yarder he recorded in the second quarter.

Joe Davis completed four passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns for the Blackhawks, who won their third game of season.

The Black Panthers were led by Coby Johnson. Johnson completed 10 passes for 97 yards. Nate Spawn chipped in with 55 yards on the ground and 30 receiving yards.

The Blackhawks (3-1) play Hitchcock-Tulare Friday in Hitchcock. The Black Panthers (2-3) play Corsica/Stickney Friday in Stickney.

McCook Central/Montrose 28, Elk Point/Jefferson 0 ELK POINT — Jerry Kapperman had 106 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries to help McCook Central/Montrose earn its first win of the season over Elk Point-Jefferson Friday.

The Fighting Cougars won 28-0 in the high school football game.

Kylar Hansen threw 102 yards and one touchdown, while Tyler Cleveland added 71 yards and one touchdown on the ground in the win.

Jared Hueser led the way for Elk Point-Jefferson. He rushed for 55 yards.

MCM (1-4) hosts Sioux Valley Friday in Salem. Elk Point Jefferson (0-5) plays Canton Oct. 11, in Canton.

Colome 66, Lower Brule 14 LOWER BRULE — The Colome Cowboys had four interceptions returned for scores en route to a 66-14 win over Lower Brule Friday in high school football action.

Will Cahoy led the Cowboys on the ground with 55 yards on five carries, Cole McCarty had four carries for 45 yards and Terrance Kinzer had three carries for 36 yards.

Chase Hrabanek had eight tackles to lead the Cowboy defense and Lane Fawcett added six tackles. Jacob Worden recorded five tackles in the win.

Colome (3-1) plays Edgemont Friday in Colome.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 27, Freeman 6 FREEMAN — Mount Vernon/Plankinton beat Freeman 27-6 in a high school football game Friday night.

The game was called at halftime due to weather.

For the Titans, Cote Hinker had 11 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns, while Deric Denning had eight carries for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Cole Paulson had eight carries for 57 yards and one touchdown in the win. Cody Roth had two fumble recoveries for Freeman.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (1-3) plays Kimball/White Lake Friday. Freeman (0-5) has a bye week and plays Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Oct. 11.

Scotland 22, Gayville-Volin 18 SCOTLAND — Scotland beat Gayville-Volin 22-18 Friday in a high school football game in Scotland.

After giving up an early 16-point lead, the Highlanders got an 8-yard touchdown run from Chandler Diede in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Seth Ireland led Scotland on the ground with 113 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. Jeremiah Wagner also scored for Scotland on a 33-yard touchdown run.

Gayville-Volin was led by Zach Anderson with 107 yards rushing.

Scotland (3-2) plays Gregory Friday in Gregory, while Gayville-Volin (1-3) plays at Avon Friday.

For Redfield/Doland, Jake Baloun had four rushes for 122 yards and one touchdown.

For Chamberlain, Parker Evans 11 attempts for 76 yards and one touchdown, while Jim Bob Ellsworth had eight carries for 37 yards. Dylan Dominiack had six tackles.

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan 28, Hanson 0 ALEXANDRIA — Wade Miller had 19 carries for 195 yards and three touchdowns to help Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan defeat Hanson 28-0 Friday.

The game was called in the third quarter due to lightning. Both schools agreed to end the game and will not make it up.

Jordan Grosdidier added 97 yards and one touchdown on the ground for the Seahawks. Quarterback Blake Bartscher had 42 yards passing on three completions.

Hanson was led by Andy Craig and Jacob Paradeis. Craig had three rushes for 47 yards, while Paradeis recorded eight tackles.

Hanson (0-4) plays Howard Friday in Howard, while the Seahawks (4-1) host Menno/Marion Friday in Ethan.

For Howard, Luke Loudenburg had 21 attempts for 232 yards and four touchdowns, while Nick Pardy had 17 tackles on defense.

Nick Gortmaker had 31 attempts for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Razorbacks, and Dylan Lehr had an interception.

Howard (4-0) hosts Hanson Friday in Howard, while Menno/Marion (3-1) plays Bridgewater/Emery-Ethan Friday in Ethan.

Kimball/White Lake 44, Miller 0 KIMBALL — Eathen Gaulke had 11 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns to lift Kimball/White Lake over Miller 44-0 Friday in high school football action.

WiLdKat quarterback Riley Talbott completed 2 of 5 passes for 55 yards and a score, and Gaulke was his top target, hauling in one reception for 52 yards and a touchdown. Turner Blasius had two touchdowns and led defensively with five tackles and one sack for the WiLdKats, who had 221 total rushing yards.

For Miller, Devon Gnat had nine carries for 22 yards and threw for 46 yards.

Kimball/White Lake (4-1) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton Friday in Mount Vernon, while Miller (1-3) hosts Herreid/Selby Area Friday.

Parker 26, Corsica/Stickney 14 PARKER — Corscia/Stickney dropped its first game of the season Friday, losing to Parker 26-14 on the road.

Parker took a 20-0 lead sparked by quarterback Eric Hunstad. Hunstad rushed for two scores and threw a touchdown pass to Michael Olson for the other. Hunstad finished with 125 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Corsica/Stickney got on the board with a Brian Joachim touchdown pass to Austin Tilton. The Jaguars finished with a total of 174 rushing yards as a team. Eli Van Roekel was the team’s leading rusher. He ran for 86 yards on 17 carries.

Clayton Menning also had a 57-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars.

Corsica/Stickney (3-1) hosts Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian Friday in Stickney. Parker (4-0) plays Garretson in Garretson.

Gregory 30, Burke/South Central 12 BURKE — Derek Stukel rushed for 282 yards and two touchdowns to help Gregory defeat Burke/South Central 30-12 Friday.

Stukel’s longest run of the night came on his 91-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Gregory quarterback Kurt Braun had 96 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Jonah Beck had 10 tackles to lead the Gregory defense.

Sam Hazen led the Burke/South Central defense with 10 tackles and one sack. The Cougar offense was led by Turner Serr, who rushed 26 times for 108 yards.

B/SC (3-2) plays Scotland Oct. 11 in Scotland, while Gregory (4-1) plays Scotland Friday in Gregory.

Wagner has a 14-0 lead over Beresford. The game was suspended due to lightning and will continue at 3 p.m. today in Wagner.

Prior to postponement, Wagner running back David Kocer scored a rushing touchdown, while wide receiver Noah St. Pierre hauled in a touchdown pass from Dylan Brunsing.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 20, Marty Indian 0, second quarter TRIPP — The Tripp-Delmont/Armour vs. Marty football game was suspended Friday due to lightning midway through the second quarter.

At the time the game was called, Tripp-Delmont/Armour was leading 20-0. The game will continue at 6 p.m. Monday in Tripp.

Avon 12, Canistota 6, end of second quarter CANISTOTA — The Avon vs. Canistota football game was suspended at halftime due to inclement weather.

Avon, which is ranked No. 1 in the Class 9B poll, leads 12-6 over Canistota, which received votes Class 9B poll. The teams will resume at 2 p.m. today in Canistota.
