Area high school volleyball roundup: Trojans beat Fighting Cougars in three sets

PARKSTON — Parkston pulled out a three-set win over McCook Central/Montrose in front of a spirited crowd Thursday in a high school volleyball match in Parkston.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-23.

Senior middle hitter Laura Weiss led Parkston (9-5) with 10 kills and seven digs, while Halli Heisinger added seven kills.

C.J. Ristesund racked up a game-high 18 kills and 14 digs for the Fighting Cougars (4-9). Danielle Hansen added seven kills.

Parkston plays Freeman Monday in Freeman, while the Fighting Cougars play Dell Rapids Tuesday in Salem.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Marion 2

MARION — Bridgewater-Emery pulled out a tough five-set win over Marion in high school volleyball action Thursday in Marion.

Set scores were 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 18-16.

The Huskies (7-4) were led by Justine Dye with 16 kills and 14 digs, and Chesney Arend with 22 digs and two aces.

Marion’s Erica Schoenwald had a game-high 23 kills, while adding 30 digs and two aces. Kaitlyn Engbrecht had 43 digs and 25 assists for the Bears.

Both Marion and Bridgewater-Emery play in the Cornbelt Conference Classic Saturday in Howard.

Hanson 3, Canistota 0

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson trumped Canistota 25-12, 25-21, 28-26 in a high school volleyball game on Thursday night.

For Hanson, Emily Brown had 12 assists and seven aces, while Hailey Doyle had 10 assists and five kills.

For Canistota, Chloe Nielsen had eight kills and four aces and Morgan Larson had eight assists and four digs.

The Beavers won the JV game.

Hanson (13-1) and Canistota (3-8) plays in the Cornbelt Conference Classic Saturday in Howard.

Menno 3, Freeman 1

MENNO — The Menno volleyball team defeated Freeman 16-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 Thursday.

For Menno, Madison Huber recorded 12 assists and nine digs and Christina Herrboldt had 12 kills and 11 digs.

For Freeman, Marley Pravecek had 11 assists and Shelby Jensen added six kills and nine digs.

Freeman (2-5) and Menno (1-7) play in the Cornbelt Conference Classic Saturday in Howard.

Freeman won the JV game.

Andes Central 3, Dakota Christian 0

LAKE ANDES — Andes Central topped Dakota Christian 25-10, 25-16, 25-13 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday night.

For Andes Central, Dennisha Johanneson had 12 kills and 10 aces and Payton Johanneson had eight kills and two blocks.

For Dakota Christian, Kennedy Muckey had six kills and four blocks. Rheanna Pheifer had seven digs and one ace.

Andes Central (5-6) plays at Colome Tuesday. Dakota Christian (2-8) plays Sunshine Bible Academy Saturday in Kimball.

Andes Central won the JV game.

Avon 3, Irene-Wakonda 2

AVON — Avon beat Irene-Wakonda 20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11 in a high school volleyball match Thursday night.

For Avon, Hannah Powers recorded 27 assists and 10 digs, while Chesney Nagel had 14 kills and 14 digs. Ariana Oorlog added nine kills, two blocks, 19 digs and 10 aces.

For Irene-Wakonda, Bailey Hinseth recorded 20 assists and 14 digs. Dana Schenk added 12 kills and 13 digs.

Avon (5-6) won the JV and plays at Scotland Tuesday, while Irene-Wakonda (2-7) plays Alcester-Hudson Thursday.

Mitchell Christian 3,

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

TRIPP — Mitchell Christian beat Tripp-Delmont/Armour 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 in a high school volleyball match Thursday in Tripp.

For Mitchell Christian, Cassidy Graham had 12 kills and eight digs and Emily Schrag recorded 20 assists.

For Tripp-Delmont/Armour, Jessica Sandau had nine kills and 13 digs, while Hannah Just had seven assists and 13 digs.

Mitchell Christian (6-8) plays Kimball/White Lake Tuesday in Kimball. Tripp-Delmont/Armour (2-10) plays Parkston Tuesday in Parkston.

Mitchell Christian won the JV game.

Ethan 3, Scotland 0

ETHAN — Darbi Gustafson had 14 kills and four aces to lead Ethan over Scotland 25-23,25-12,25-21 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday night.

Holly Lindeman had 28 assists in the win.

For Scotland, Carley Skorepa had 10 kills and four digs.

Ethan (13-4) hosts Bridgewater-Emery Tuesday in Ethan, while Scotland (5-5) hosts Avon Tuesday.

Lyman 3, Chamberlain 0

PRESHO — The Lyman Raiders volleyball team defeated Chamberlain in three sets Thursday.

Set scores were 25-7, 25-17, 25-20.

Anna Flitner led the way for the Raiders. Flitner recorded 13 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Brooklyn Halverson added five kills and six aces, while Bailey Almond had 16 assists and four aces.

Chamberlain was led by Ilaria Giuli. Giuli had three aces and three blocks. Kennedy Wagner chipped in with eight assists and five kills, while Shelby Schindler had four kills and two blocks for the Cubs.

Lyman (14-4) plays in a tournament Saturday in Belle Fourche. Chamberlain (4-6) plays Saturday at the Central Conference tournament in Miller.

Alcester-Hudson 3, Freeman Academy 0

ALCESTER — Alcester-Hudson beat Freeman Academy, 25-1, 25-8, 25-6 Thursday.
