Wesleyan falls to Concordia in 3 sets

The Dakota Wesleyan volleyball team suffered a Great Plains Athletic Conference three-set loss to Concordia Friday at the Christen Family Wellness Center in Mitchell.

Taylor Spence led offensively for DWU with nine kills, while Briana Jung recorded 22 assists.

The Tigers (4-11, 0-2 GPAC) host Nebraska Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. today.

Trojan, Kernel teams struggle at Mitchell Invitational

Both Parkston head coach Tyler Hockett and Mitchell head coach Rob Marchand believe conditions had an effect on their teams’ performances Friday at the Mitchell Golf Invitational.

The Kernels were 15th with a 347, while Parkston finished 11th with a 328. More results are listed above.

“The conditions weren’t very easy,” Marchand said. “It was windy and cold. Execution on certain shots didn’t come off the way they usually do. It wasn’t our day.”

Sioux Falls O’Gorman shot 301 to take first in the 20-team meet at Lakeview Golf Course. Lincoln’s Tommy Vining claimed first place in the individual race after shooting a 73. “We shot our highest round of the year, and I think the wind had something to do with it,” Hockett said.

“Our boys also didn’t get up and down from the greens very well.”

Parkston’s Jake Weber shot a 75 to finish tied for fifth place. Jaron Weich had the best score for Mitchell with an 84.

MC/MV boys’ soccer team falls to JVC

The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team lost 4-0 to James Valley Christian Friday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

MC/MV (2-7) put four shots on goal against JVC. MC/MV sophomore goalkeeper Noah Bowman made 20 saves in the loss.

MC/MV hosts Groton Area at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

DWU men earn 1-0 conference win

LINCOLN, Neb. — Chaz Foss scored a goal to lead the Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer team over Nebraska Wesleyan 1-0 Friday.

The Tigers (4-1-1) took five shots on goal and goalkeeper Alex Nelson made two saves in the win.

DWU’s next action is Sunday against Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.

Mitchell’s Bertsch sinks 3rd hole-in-one

Jerry Bertsch made his third hole-in-one Friday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Bertsch, of Mitchell, used a 4-hybrid on the third hole, which is 156 yards.

Tiger women drop GPAC game 4-2

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer team was defeated by Nebraska Wesleyan 4-2 in its first Great Plains Athletic Conference game of the season Friday.

Linsey Peterson and Thara Ali Said each scored a goal in the loss.
