Area high school volleyball roundup: Hanson rallies for five set win over Titans

MOUNT VERNON — Sydney Dodd recorded 17 kills and 12 digs to lead the Hanson Beavers to a five-set victory over the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans in a high school volleyball match Thursday.

Set scores were 19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-10.

Hailey Doyle recorded two aces and 19 assists for the Beavers, while Leah Marsh added 24 digs.

The Titans were led by Kallyn Prangley, who recorded two aces and 24 digs. Makaela Karst chipped in with 12 kills and Mikayla Weiss added 31 assists and two aces. Megan Bultsma had seven blocks.

Hanson (6-1) plays Marion Tuesday in Alexandria. Mount Vernon/Plankinton (2-2) plays Kimball/White Lake in the Custer Battlefield Highway tournament Saturday in Kimball.

Jones County 3, Colome 0

JONES COUNTY — The Colome Cowgirls fell in three sets to Jones County Thursday on the road to drop to 1-6 on the season.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 25-15.

Colome was led by sophomore Mariah Kinzer with five kills, while Taylor Hrabanek, Sarah Shippy and Callie Heath each had four kills. Heath also had four blocks. Pacing Colome in assists was Lauren Week with seven.

Colome plays Platte-Geddes Tuesday in Colome.

Andes Central 3, Corsica/Stickney 1

LAKE ANDES — Andes Central topped Corsica/Stickney Thursday in a close four-set match.

Set scores were 25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 25-13.

The Eagles were led by Payton Johanneson with 17 kills, 19 assists, nine digs and eight aces. Dennisha Johanneson added 16 kills, 13 assists and 12 digs.

Jackie Dethlefsen led Corsica/Stickney with 12 kills, four blocks and four digs, while Brittni Moke added 10 digs.

Andes Central (2-2) plays at Scotland Tuesday, while Corsica/Stickney (0-3) plays in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament Saturday in Kimball.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Mitchell Christian 2

Marissa Weber had 16 kills and 30 digs to lead Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in a five-set thriller Thursday in Mitchell.

The Blackhawks won 20-25, 14-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-7.

Morgan Selland had eight kills and 27 digs for the Blackhawks, while Rachel Selland had 26 assists, five kills, five blocks and 26 digs. Savannah Swenson added 26 digs.

Mitchell Christian (3-4) was led by Cassidy Graham, Emily Reynen and Abbie Reynen. Graham had two aces, seven kills and 19 digs. Emily Reynen had one ace, 11 kills, six blocks and 14 digs, while Abbie Reynen had four aces, 10 kills and three blocks. Emily Schrag chipped in with 24 assists and three aces and Ellie Bleeker added six aces and 21 digs.

The Golden Eagles and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (1-2) both play in the Custer Battlefield Highway tournament Saturday in Kimball.

Avon 3, Centerville 0

CENTERVILLE — The Avon Pirates volleyball team defeated Centerville in three sets Thursday.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-12, 25-22.

Ariana Oorlog led the way for Avon. Oorlog recorded 14 kills, six digs, four aces and one block. Chesney Nagel chipped in with eight kills, two blocks, two assists, three digs and one ace for the Pirates. Hanna Powers had 22 assists, two digs, while Amanda Reiff had two kills, one block, two assists, 11 digs and two aces.

Avon (2-4) hosts Wagner Tuesday in Avon. Centerville (0-5) plays Baltic Tuesday in Centerville.

Wagner 3, Gregory 0

WAGNER — The Wagner Red Raiders volleyball team defeated the Gregory Gorillas in three sets Thursday.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-19, 25-17.

Kim Koupal led the way for the Red Raiders. Koupal recorded 13 kills and 17 digs. Brooklyn Tolliver chipped with 13 digs, while Krista Dvorak had 16 assists and Kayla Deurmeier had 15 assists.

Gregory was led by Briana Leber and Codi Horst. Leber had 16 digs and Horst had 15 digs.

Wagner also won the JV game 2-0.

Gregory (5-4) plays Dakota Christian Tuesday in Gregory.

Wanger (5-2) plays Avon Tuesday in Avon.

Huron 3, Brandon Valley 1

HURON — The Huron Tigers evened their season record at 2-2 with a win over Brandon Valley Thursday in four sets.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 14-25, 25-14.

Huron was led by senior Halee Allerdings with 14 kills, five digs and five aces. Asia King added 11 kills, while Kelly McCarty finished with 33 assists. Junior Sami Zell led the Tigers with five blocks.

Huron plays at Watertown Saturday.

Ethan 3, Menno 0

MENNO — Ethan topped Menno 25-13, 25-9, 25-11 Thursday in a high school volleyball match in Menno.

For Ethan, Anna Mueller lead the way with 11 kills and three blocks, and Holley Lindeman had 24 assists for the Rustlers.

Menno’s Madison Huber had five assists and three digs, while Devon Bloch had seven digs and two kills.

Ethan won the JV game.

Ethan (5-2) plays Sanborn Central Woonsocket in the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference tournament Saturday in Kimball.

Menno (0-4) plays at Howard Monday in Menno.

Bon Homme 3, Platte-Geddes 2

TYNDALL — Bon Homme had a come-from-behind victory against Platte-Geddes Thursday night.

Set scores were 24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-4.

For Bon Homme, Alie Adams led the way with seven aces and 37 assists. Kelsey Sutera had five aces, 10 kills and 25 digs.

For Platte-Geddes, Josie DeGroot had six aces, five kills and two blocks and Madi Whalen had 18 assists, four assists and two kills.

Bon Homme won both the JV and C matches.

Bon Homme (6-1) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour Tuesday in Tripp. Platte-Geddes (1-5) plays at Colome Tuesday.

Sunshine Bible Academy 3,

Dakota Christian 1

NEW HOLLAND — Sunshine Bible Academy beat Dakota Christian 27-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19 Thursday in a high school volleyball match in New Holland.

For Sunshine Bible Academy, Sarah Pedersen had 12 kills, six blocks and five aces, while Tricia Wilken recorded nine kills and two blocks.

April Baan Hofman had 11 kills and nine digs for the Cadets. Kennedy Muckey had 10 kills, 10 digs and eight aces.

Sunshine Bible Academy won the JV game.

Dakota Christian (2-3) plays Ethan Monday in New Holland.

Sunshine Bible Academy (1-3) plays at the Sunshine Bible Academy tournament on Saturday.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Irene/Wakonda 1

WAKONDA — Bridgewater-Emery came out victorious against Irene/Wakonda in three sets Thursday.

Set scores were 25-11, 21-25, 25-19.

Justine Dye lead the way with 10 digs and eight kills, while Aly Hanssen had 18 assists. Chesney Arend had 39 digs in the win.

No stats were reported for Irene/Wakonda.

Bridgewater-Emery (3-1) plays Freeman Tuesday in Bridgewater. Irene/Wakonda (1-3) plays Freeman Academy Tuesday in Freeman.

Scotland 3, Canistota 2

CANISTOTA — Scotland beat Canistota 27-25, 25-23, 24-26, 20-25, 15-8 Thursday in high school volleyball action.

For Scotland, Carley Skorepa had 23 kills and Amber Alvey had 26 assists.

No stats were reported for Canistota.

Scotland (2-1) hosts Freeman Monday, while Canistota (1-3) hosts Colman-Egan Tuesday.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Flandreau 0; Parker 3,

McCook Central/Montrose 1

FLANDREAU — The McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars volleyball team went 1-1 at the Big East Conference tournament Thursday.

The Fighting Cougars defeated Flandreau 18-25, 25-17, 25-8, 26-24, and fell to Parker 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 29-27.

Against Flandreau, C.J. Ristesund led MC/M with 13 digs, two aces and 18 kills. Nicole Roth had 10 digs, five aces, 12 kills and one block, while Annie Boddicker had 18 digs and four aces.

Against Parker, Marissa Painter had four kills and three blocks, while Brianna Painter had 38 digs and Nicole Roth had 11 kills.

MC/M (2-7) plays Sioux Valley for third place in the tournament Saturday in Flandreau.
