WATERTOWN -- The Mitchell softball team went 3-0 to defend its Eastern South Dakota Conference title Saturday in Watertown.

The Kernels defeated Watertown, Brookings and Yankton, three teams they lost to earlier in the season.

"It was nice for those girls to bounce back against those teams," Mitchell head coach Jim Misiaszek said. "It was a great team win at a time when we really needed it."

Mitchell's Jenna Skinner led the team at the plate, going 8-for-10 with 12 RBIs through the course of the tournament.

"Skinner was our leader," Misiaszek said. "Every time she got up, we knew something positive was going to happen."

In the first game, Mitchell won 9-0 against the Arrows and had nine runs on 11 hits. Pitcher Krista Huber allowed one hit in the game and recorded a personal-best 14 strikeouts.

Sarah Ramsay went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Kernels had eight runs on nine hits in their 8-2 victory against Brookings. Hallie Misiaszek was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits in five innings and recording 10 strikeouts.

In the final game, Mitchell beat Yankton 9-2 with 12 hits in the game. Krista Huber recorded eight strikeouts and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and one triple in the win.

Mitchell hosts Sioux Falls Lincoln on its senior night with games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today at Dr. McWhirter Field on the Cadwell Park Sports Complex.
