Cross country season opens at Beresford
BERESFORD — With 570 athletes in attendance, the cross-country season opened for a number of small schools Friday at the Beresford Invitational at the Bridges at Beresford Golf Course.
Freeman Academy/Marion's Thaniel Schroeder was the top area boys finisher, taking third place (17 minutes, 20.49 seconds). McCook Central/Montrose's Blake Pulse was 10th overall (18:27.12), with Menno's Joseph Grassmid taking 12th (18:31.89). FA/M's Titus Roesler finished 13th in 18:31.89. The winner was Beresford's Alec Atwood, finishing in 16:56.51. The Watchdogs edged Sioux Falls Christian for the team title, scoring 44 points to the Chargers' 47.
In the girls race, Lindsey Roth took fourth place (20:10.84) for Ethan/Parkston, and teammate Adaya Plastow was 15th (21:54.66). Also in the top-15 was Canistota's Kara Roshone, who was ninth in 21:34.44, followed by Menno's Morgan Edelman (21:35.68). Luverne, Minnesota's Tenley Nelson won the race in 19:19.45, leading the Cardinals to the team title with 30 points. Ethan/Parkston was fifth as a team with 56 points.
