Catching up: USF duo finish strong at Drake Relays

Kendra Knight and Brigitte Gross both had a big weekend for the University of Sioux Falls women’s track and field team at the Drake Alternative Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Knight, a senior and native of Mitchell, finished third overall in the 400-meter dash at the meet with her time of 57.43 seconds. Fellow senior Gross, a former Hanson High School grad, was the top finisher in the pole vault with her final clearance of 12 feet, 6 inches, a new meet record and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Kraft wins, Klyiac strong for BHSU in Fort Collins, Colo.

Black Hills State University distance runner Mitch Kraft continued his outdoor-season dominance over the weekend at the Jack Christiansen Invite in Fort Collins, Colo., hosted by Colorado State University. The Wessington Springs native won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:58.29 in a field comprised of several Division I runners.

Canistota native Abbi Klyiac, a junior for the Jackets, finished 14th overall after making the finals in the women’s 400-meter dash. Klyiac finished the race in 59.99 seconds.

Black Hills now enters postseason competition, traveling to Alamosa, Colo., Sunday for the RMAC Outdoor Championships. Kraft, a senior in the classroom, will have one year of indoor and outdoor track eligibility remaining after this season after redshirting in 2011.

Farley with two hits for DSU

Winner native J.D. Farley recorded two RBIs in Dakota State’s doubleheader sweep of Presentation College Friday in Redfield. The junior went 1-for-3 in game one and 1-for-4 in the nightcap, recording an RBI in each. Ross Kortan, a freshman for the Trojans from Tyndall, picked up his first win of the season on the mound in game one.
