USD women prep for 1st game in NCAA Tournament

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team is gearing up for its first-round game in the NCAA Tournament, while the South Dakota State University women have advanced in the National Invitation Tournament.

USD takes on Stanford at 5:30 p.m. today in the Stanford Regional at Ames, Iowa. The Coyotes are the No. 15 seed and the Cardinal the No. 2 seed in the region. The winner takes on either Iowa State or Florida State on Monday.

SDSU didn’t make it to the Big Dance, but got an invite to the NIT. The Jackbrabbits defeated Butler 78-61 in the first round on Thursday. They’ll play Creighton in the second round at 2 p.m. Sunday at Frost Arena in Brookings.

USF names Snyder athletic director

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The University of Sioux Falls has hired Josh Snyder as its new director of athletics.

Snyder most recently served as senior associate athletics director for compliance and development at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He joined UMKC from Boise State University, where he served as executive director for NCAA compliance after serving at Iowa State University in three senior athletic leadership positions.

USF President Mark Benedetto made the announcement at a news conference Friday afternoon.

Benedetto says Snyder proved to be an impressive candidate with vast experiences in athletic development and NCAA compliance.

Snyder will take on the new role May 1.

Today’s DWU softball game postponed

Dakota Wesleyan University’s softball game that was scheduled for today has been postponed.

DWU’s doubleheader with Hastings College is rescheduled for 1 p.m. April 27 in Mitchell.

CBH vs. Cornbelt all-star games set for Tuesday

The annual senior all-star games between the Custer Battlefield Highway Conference and Cornbelt Conference are set for Tuesday in Alexandria.

The girls game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7:15 p.m. Coaches from Dakota Wesleyan University and Mount Marty College will head the teams.
