Denning headed to Mount Marty

Mount Vernon senior Deric Denning committed to play basketball and baseball for Mount Marty College.

Denning, who will join the Lancers in the fall, had a batting average of .333 and as a pitcher, he struck out 36 batters in 20 innings of work, posting a 1.40 earned run average.

On the basketball court, Denning is averaging 19.5 points per game this season, shooting 44 percent from the field and 74 percent from the line. He recently surpassed 1,000 career points.

DWU racewalker to compete at indoor nationals

Dakota Wesleyan University’s Nicole Court Menendez will compete in her second straight trip to the NAIA Indoor National Championships Friday in Geneva, Ohio.

The sophomore qualified for the 3,000-meter racewalk at the Snow Bird Open earlier this season, hitting the qualifying mark with a time of 15 minutes, 56:97 seconds. She’s seeded 10th heading into the national meet.

The racewalk finals are at noon Friday.

MHS girls’ golf meeting to be held Monday

There is a meeting for all girls interested in golf this spring Monday at Mitchell High School.

This meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in Room 226, is also for the golfers’ parents.

Loads of MHS, DWU coaches at QB Club today

This week’s special guests at Quarterback Club are the Mitchell High School state champion gymnastics team and state place winners and seniors from the Mitchell wrestling team.

The meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. today at The Depot, will also feature Dakota Wesleyan University basketball coaches Matt Wilber and Jason Christensen, as well as coaches from Mitchell High School.

Men’s slow pitch meeting to be held Monday

Mitchell Men’s League for slow pitch softball will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at The Depot.

All teams must have a representative present.
