Catching up: Area athletes compete at USD Twilight Meet

University of South Dakota distance runner Jilanne Doom recorded a third-place finish in the women’s one-mile run Saturday at the USD Twilight Meet in Vermillion.

Doom, a senior from Wagner, finished the race in 5 minutes, 19.30 seconds. Lindsey Mettler, a Wessington Springs native and junior for the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, also competed in the race, finishing in 14th with a time of 5:55.84.

Doom had one other top five finish at the meet, coming in fourth in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:45.86.

Stickney native Shelby Assmus, a senior thrower for South Dakota State University, finished third in the women’s shot put at the Twilight Meet with a throw of 14.32 meters.

On the men’s side, USF sophomore David Schoenfish, a Parkston graduate, finished in 10th in the men’s 1,000-meters with a time of 2:54.04.

Former Mitchell Kernel standouts Justin and Jason Greenway finished first and third for the Augustana Vikings in the men’s 200-meter dash. Justin took first in the race with a time of 22.54 seconds while Jason took third, finishing in 22.75 seconds. Jason had the higher finish in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.01 seconds. Justin finished seventh in the race in 7.09 seconds.

Duxbury helps Vikings baseball team to win

Salem native Brian Duxbury was 1-for-3 from behind the plate in Augustana’s 15-11 win over Lindenwood (Mo.) Feb. 16 in Russellville, Ark.
