Catching up: Kocer wins two matches at Southern Scuffle
South Dakota State University wrestler Alex Kocer won two matches in the 149 pound division Wednesday at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Wagner native won his first match against Jake Faust of Duke by majority decision. He dropped his second match of the day to Nick Tourville of Boston University.
The redshirt freshman bounced back with a win over Max Rohskopf of N.C. State University in wrestle backs.
Kocer’s day ended with a loss in wrestle backs to Jared Reis of Oregon State.
- Tyler Payer scored 25 points in two games for the Mount Marty boys’ basketball team at the Embassy Suites Classic Monday and Tuesday in Phoenix, Ariz.
Payer is a junior forward for theLancers (2-11). On Monday against The Master’s College Payer scored 14 points on 4 of 12 shooting as Mount Marty fell to The Master’s 67-46.
The next day Payer tallied 11 points and five rebounds in a 84-71 loss to Arizona Christian University.
Mount Marty plays Great Plains Athletic Conference opponent Nebraska Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
- Sharee Galbraith scored a combined 13 points in the Dakota State University women’s basketball team’s pair of losses at the Briar Cliff Holiday Classic Monday and Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Galbraith is a 6-foot junior center for the Trojans (6-11).
In Monday’s loss to No. 19 Briar Cliff, Galbraith scored four points off the bench and added two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
In the Trojans’ 89-50 loss to No. 13 Morningside Tuesday, the Winner native scored nine points and brought down two rebounds.
Dakota State plays McPherson College at 6 p.m. Friday in McPherson, Kan.
