Catching up 12/5/13: Malloy helps Cougars to undefeated start

Former Parkston High School standout Marie Malloy, a sophomore on the University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team, scored six points and added four rebounds, one steal and one assist in the Cougars’ 70-60 win over Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls.

The USF women (4-0, 1-0 NSIC) continue Northern Sun Intercollgiate Conference play at home game against Wayne State today before hosting inter-city rival Augustana College Friday. Both games begin at 6 p.m. at the Stewart Center.

  • Colorado State University senior cross country runner Alex Muntefering helped his team to its best finish in a decade at the NCAA Division I National Championships Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Rams took 26th, finishing one spot higher than their seed heading into the race.

Muntefering, a former Parkston Trojan, finished in 97th in the men’s 10K race with a time of 31 minutes, 18 seconds.

  • Mitchell native Mitchell Baye placed in three events at the University of South Dakota’s swim meet against Wisconsin-Green Bay Nov. 14 in Green Bay, Wis.

Baye, a junior, was the first leg of the Coyotes’ 200-yard freestyle relay that finished in fifth place with a time of 1 minute, 33.49 seconds and the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay that finished in sixth overall with a time of 1:41.36. Baye also placed in his individual event, the 100-yard freestyle, finishing seventh with a time of 52.33.

USD travels to Rochester, Minn., for the Rochester Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
