USD women’s coach to speak at Quarterback Club

University of South Dakota women’s basketball head coach Amy Williams is the special guest at this week’s Quarterback Club meeting today.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at The Depot.

Seniors on the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team are also set to speak, along with the team captains of the Tiger men’s team.

Other Mitchell Kernel and DWU coaches will be at the meeting as well.

Two Tigers earn weekly GPAC football honors

Dakota Wesleyan University junior running back Francois Barnaud and sophomore tight end Trevor Schroeder were honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference Monday for their performances in the Tigers’ win over Nebraska Wesleyan.

Barnaud was named offensive player of the week in the GPAC after he rushed for 254 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns against the Prairie Wolves on Saturday.

Schroeder earned special teams player of the week honors for the GPAC after he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown in the win over NWU.

The Tigers (6-3, 5-2 GPAC) host Concordia University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell.

Registration for Turkey Trot open

The Dakota Plains Running Club is hosting is Eighth Annual Turkey Trot 5K road race on Thanksgiving morning in Mitchell.

The race, which is sponsored by Mitchell Telecom, begins at John Paul II at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28. There is also a one mile fun run.

Preregistration is encouraged at, but runners can also register on race day from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
