Catching up 10/31/13: Bork finishes in top 5 twice

University of Northern Iowa junior swimmer Reva Bork placed in the top 5 in two events in a meet with the University of South Dakota Saturday in Vermillion.

Bork, a former Mitchell Kernel, placed fourth overall in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9 minutes, 55.04 seconds and fifth overall in the 400-meter freestyle, finishing in 4:52.50.

Northern Iowa hosts its first meet of the year Friday when the University of North Dakota travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa.

  • Christian Van Dyke, a junior for Dordt College’s men’s cross country team, placed 72nd overall at the Mount Marty Invite Saturday in Yankton. Van Dyke, a Mitchell native, finished with a time of 27:56.75, helping the Dordt Defenders to a third-place team finish.

Dordt is ranked No. 24 in the latest NAIA men’s cross country poll and resumes its season Nov. 9 when it travels to Seward, Neb., for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships.

  • Stickney native Whitney Kuyper, a junior for the Northern State University women’s cross country team, finished 44th overall at the NSIC Championships Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Kuyper finished with a time of 23:17.18, and the Wolves took ninth in the team race.

  • South Dakota State University sophomore cross-country runner Rochelle Wynia, a Platte native, placed 22nd out of 129 runners with a time of 19:44.72 at the Mount Marty Invite Saturday in Yankton, helping the Jacks to a second-place team finish.

SDSU travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., Saturday for the Summit League Championships

  • Berkley Rietveld, a 2013 graduate from Mitchell High School, also placed in the top half of the women’s field at the Mount Marty Invite. Rietveld, a freshman for the Lancers, finished with a time of 21:07.07.

Mount Marty’s next action is the GPAC Championships in Seward, Neb., on Nov. 9.
