Catching up: Schweitzer finishes in top 15 at XC meet

Northern State freshman cross country runner Jacob Schweitzer finished 13th overall with a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds at the Gypsy Days Steps for Shep 5K Saturday in Aberdeen. Schweitzer, an Emery native, is also a member of the Wolves’ track and field team.

- Whitney Kuyper, a junior at NSU and a member of the women’s cross country team, finished 41st overall in the race that consisted of both male and female participants. Kuyper, a Stickney graduate, finished with a time of 25:49.00.

- Platte native Emily Johnson helped the University of Sioux Falls volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the University of Mary Oct. 5 in Bismarck, N.D. Johnson, a junior for the Cougars, had a team-high 14 kills and eight digs in the victory. USF had 55 kills on 128 attacks in the match.

USF (10-6, 2-5 NSIC) hosts two conference opponents this weekend as it faces Upper Iowa Friday on USF volleyball alumni night and Winona State Saturday.

- Former Parkston standout Logan Wagner and Delmont native Caitlyn Roth were the top two finishers for the Mount Marty women’s golf team at the second GPAC qualifier Oct. 2. The Lancers finished fourth at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa.

Wagner, a freshman, finished in 11th place with a score of 174, while Roth, a senior, shot a 183, putting her in 23rd place. It was the last meet of the fall season for Mount Marty.

- Mount Marty junior middle hitter Laura Groseth is fourth on the volleyball team in total kills with 58 on the year. Groseth, a psychology major from Corsica, had a season- and career-high 11 kills on Sept. 6 against Presentation College.

The Lancers (10-11, 0-5 GPAC) host Hastings College Friday in GPAC action in Yankton.
