DWU women in 1st, men in 4th after first day of Palace City Classic

The Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf team sits in front of the field by 10 strokes after the opening round of the DWU Palace City Classic Friday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

The Tigers shot a 316 and lead Northwestern, which is in second place, with a 326. Mount Marty is in third with a 350.

DWU’s Lauren Fitts is tied for first with a 77 with Northwestern’s Betsy Wallin. Tiger Chelsea Burback is tied for third (78), Talia Peters is tied for fifth (79) and Tiera Feller is in a three-way tie for eighth (81). Mount Marty’s highest finisher after the first day is Logan Wagner, a Parkston native, with an 83. She sits in 13th place.

For the men, Northwestern is in the top spot with a 279. The Tigers are in fourth with a 293. Cal Weise, a Fedora native who is playing for the DWU JV squad, leads the Tigers in fifth after the first round with a 71. DWU’s Tyler Burr is tied for eighth with a 72.

The second round of the tournament begins at 10 a.m. today at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell.
